His first born baby is diagnosed with downs and the doctors are telling him and his wife to abort.

He asked me for advice and I simply said I can't even imagine making this kind of a decision.

Adding to the grieve, both of them are super religious. Your typical church goers that are always there for Sunday service.

Best wishes to him and his wife!

If I was in that position abortion would be an option, not sure I'd be able to go through it though.

One thing I'll say, a neighbor of a friend of mine has a son who has down syndrome. I met them during Christmas dinner 2 years ago. That child was one of the absolute sweetest children I've ever met. Absolute Angel! What touched me was how patient and caring his father was. The father babied him more than the mother. The boy wanted to play and wouldn't sit down to eat, so his dad sat him on his lap and fed him off his own plate, to make sure he ate. The dad said, as long as he eats, I'm fine. Both parents spoke about how they were raising him to be independent as self sufficient as he can be. They said for his age and with his condition he was fairly advanced over other kids his age with down syndrome. It really was beautiful!

Seen too many grown ass down syndrome adults...that parents worry about because they don't know who is gonna take care of their kids after they die.

Then if I had other children, it would be unfair to them for me to be like..."Take care of your brother/sister..."

The whole benefit of being a human being is enjoying the intelligence and the ability to create and etc...and now I got a kid with Downs that will never experience that...unless it's some savant or some shyt...

So yeah...I am aborting.

Its not cool that the doctor is telling them to abort. All he/she needed to do was to inform them that the baby may have down syndrome and if that's not something they want to deal with then abortion is an option.

If they don't want to abort then now is the time for them to start looking into programs, support groups, etc to help them.

This is a difficult situation to be in.

I wish them the best.

abort and try again...sound shytty, but :manny:

nobody wants their kid to suffer and definitely don't want to watch them suffering...i wouldn't even want to bring a child into poverty, so i damn sure would want this for them...
