This thread all over the place...

Wayne pre-03, meaning pre-Sqad Up tapes, wasn't seen as anything special unless you were a diehard CMB guy or Nola local...

Sqad Up put him on where he generated a little buzz, but the real "kick in the door" moment was Tha Carter, that was Summer 2004. It was his best work to that point of his career (still is among his best) and put him on a national stage as a soloist. He kept building on that momentum for the following years...

So Wayne as a mid-level, noted rapper began in 2004, and him burgeoning into a superstar, household name occurred sometime around Carter II (late '05) and Dedication 2 (early '06). I'll say this, online accounts credit D2 as dropping in May '06 but for a fact I first heard that tape in March '06. He was riding the momentum of D1 (Summer '05) and C2 and then dropped the tape around March and that shyt INSTANTLY lit the streets on fire...

Again he'd been bubbling since Summer '04, steady rising in profile, but when Dedication 2 dropped? That was when you knew this nikka was something different, he was an entirely different rapper than he was in the first 8 years or so of his career...

Anyone saying they knew Wayne was gonna be a GOAT before '04 or '03 at the earliest, is lying...

Hood nikka was waiting on B.G and juve to a extent.
Rap heads was waiting on Wayne and Juve
The chicks was waiting on Juve and Wayne to a extent.

Everything else is noise.

Yes Juve and B.G was more popular locally than Wayne, then wayne leapfrogged them which even them themselves would have told you was coming. Dude had the hunger, skill and passion.

Youre either acknowledging what I already said or trying refute something I didnt say.

Better to reign in Hell than serve in Heaven
This is kinda ass backwards cause his debut in 99 went plat.. So yes, people did think he was going to be a star at that point...

It was his next two albums that was meeeeeh.. Lights out.. which I don't even remember but went gold.. Then 500 degrees, which I only remember the name, but no songs... But that went gold too..

But when Carter 1 dropped in 04.. it was OVER.. everyone knew it was up from there..

So yea.. from 02-04 he fell off, but he was right back. And I'm someone who hated Wayne

Wayne “set shyt on fire” with C1 but Luda was still bigger in 2004. We compare the first week sales and singles performance from Red Light and C1 if you like
How about we compare the quality and impact?

Carter 1 still gets love to this day. Nobody listens to red light anymore.

All those Luda singles were commercial garbage.

Meanwhile Go DJ a certified blassic :wow:

Jay has done the same, let Wayne do it :manny:
Jay did what?
Stop it. Wayne was nice at 14

Wayne been spitting since 95 shut yo ho ass up

Juve and Wanye were the Mega stars, B.G was the hood star and turk was turk.
Anyone that listen to the hotboys would tell you this, everyone knew wayne was going to be a problem. The fact that he couldn't curse and was out rapping rappers at a young age and it's wasn't cheesy or corny you knew he was something special.
Baby and Mannie and juve saw it too, that's why when singles would drop on anyone of their albums someone would get replaced for a wayne verse :manny:
No.
