Wayne had a good movement with the Carter albums but those albums were overrated as hell. Jay's "retirement" helped dude a lot, but after the Carter 3 dude seemed to misplace his talent somewhere. Maybe it's because I'm older but there are way too many dope artists out there that I respect for their craft for me to put Wayne anywhere in my all time list. People forget that emcees like Redman, Luda, Busta, Bizzy, Ace, Bun B, Ras Kass, Method Man, GFK, E 40, etc. had better discographies, and were overall better lyrically and people consider those people in the top 15-25 or lower echelon. Wayne had timing on his side...his influence did more bad than good in my eyes anyway so that argument is null to me.

I was never a fan of Lil Wayne, but, when I think about his career objectively, I'd have to agree with the OP.

Wayne started calling himself the greatest when the Carter dropped, around the time Hov announced his "retirement". He was the first rapper (perhaps the only one) to declare himself the new king of rap. Naturally, a lot of people started believing him -- even though there were tons of hot rappers at the time who Wayne couldn't hold a candle to lyrically (e.g. Cassidy)

Over time he became a respectable lyricist. More specifically, he sharpened his ability to play on words and his flow got tighter and more versatile ("Look at Me Now" verse was fire - anyone who says otherwise is lying). While his lyricism is not great, it's good enough that you could make a case for top 10 when you consider his song writing abilities and his consistency in putting out popular music over a 6 or 7 year period. He held it down from, like, 04 to 2010/2011, which is much longer than the average rapper.

Of course not everyone is gonna have the same top 10. None of us are pretending like it is or should be the case. I already covered this. Is your reading comprehension that bad? What did you think when I said, word for word, THIS:

Yeah, it just happens to be a billion dollar industry and an essential aspect of humanity since caveman days. But no, there's no facts at all. It's not something worthy of study and analysis. It's all totally subjective and random guesswork :mjlol:

I gather that you're a pretty simple person from what you've been saying, so I'm not surprised. You probably don't know shyt about KRS's music anyway. You're just saying shyt to say it, particularly because you're on the defensive.

Again, it's cool if you're wowed by BMJR but most hip hop heads ARE NOT. Otherwise, this thread wouldn't exist.

It's the Coli. Where up is down and left is right.

Also, that's your finale? That a few others in this thread have said top 10? I mean, just how desperate of a follower are you?

Not surprised. Wayne makes music for followers and part-time listeners. Shallow shyt.

Hip hop goes way deeper than what Wayne has to offer.
90% of Lil B's fanbase is part time listeners what u tryna say :mjpls:

Wayne has wowed me more than that boring ass corny ass rapper Krs ever could breh

Ol The ruler 09 sounding nikka talmbout some "bububu us real hip hop heads.."

It depends what you're talking about with being top 10 at ..

He's a nice MC. I don't think you can say top 10 because imo he doesn't have any classic albums .. He has classic mixtapes .. But yet to drop a classic album

Top 10 most popular. yes.

His mixtape run was overrated imo. All he did was flooded the market.
True. He kind of jsut rapped over everyone else's shyt :russ:

At the time though.... hearing all them crazy instrumentals for the first time and wayne's leaned out freestyles... Man that was something special.

Back then it was cool to say that out of EVERY genre of music... the only artist you could fukk with was Wayne :mjlol:

Out of curiosity though who out of these is Wayne better than?

2 Pac
KRS-One
Nas
Jay Z
Biggie
Rakim
Big Daddy Kane
Ice Cube
Scarface
Slick Rick
Kool G Rap
Big Pun
AZ
Guru
Common
Chuck D

Raekwon
Ghostface
LL Cool J
Prodigy

To name but a few, so I don't see how it's possible, there's around 20 MC's there and it's only scratching the surface, is Wayne better than 10 of those MC's listed? Not to me.

He has shyt I fukk with though and he's got some good work but I don't think it reaches that elite level to make him a top 10.

Lol..u can say u ain't trolling by saying Wayne is better than Face?

Rakim?
Krs?

lyrically face is arguable. impact wise its not even close

rakim was a cornerstone and bricklayer for a style of rap that vastly evolved beyond him.
thats why his material sounds ancient. i give him all the credit in the world tho

and you really think criminal minded and by all means necessary are better than waynes catalog?

Top ten for his generation. All time :mjol: fukk outta here. fakkit has never said shyt about anything. And hes a fakkit.

You know what's funny? You remember that God bless amerika video? Probably not :lolbron:

But when I saw it with my homie for the time first time, I said "this is weezy's chance to actually say something." About 2 minutes into the video I said "Well, never mind, this is shyt."
All he did was talk about himself, and say typical wayne-isms. If he applied himself, Weezy could give us a unique perspective on life, fame (the downsides), women (I mean actual women not how many thotianas he's fukked in the ass), riches, being black and famous, police brutality, the black struggle, the music industry, and the world itself, but instead he releases subpar music with subpar lyrics.

Don't get me wrong, I think Wayne is a top 50, easily. He's got songs for days. Some great, some pretty awful. Carter 1-4 was a great run to me. He can rap his ass off, he can flow, he can be clever, but he can't write music that will make you think about things in a meaningful way. He doesn't really have "headphone music", or music to contemplate things to when you're alone. One user on here said that's what it takes to be an all time great, and I would agree with him. Weezy has unfortunately not made much music like that, but he gets by on sheer talent alone.
