Wasn't Hov trying to buy Wayne out of his contract? Don't really remember the specifics, but maybe this was on top of the buy out ?

There's gotta be more to it. If the price was that low, other labels woulda been having bidding wars for him, in his peak. Not gonna front tho...if Wayne did go with Jay, we woulda never seen the drugged out skater version of Wayne.

I think its fair to say regardless of advance or money, Jay Z probably would have gotten Wayne a better bacc end deal on long money stuff like catalog, publishing, masters-- also the fact that Baby doesnt pay no matter what "deal" was signed...

what yall think? Should Wayne have taken tha deal? :jbhmm:

Why is that fair to say? Do you have any examples of Jay doing things like that for other artist?

Wayne needs a podcast where he just talks about all of his industry stories. It's insane how he's so young, but got so many years in :salute:

He's been around so long he has a ton. He let a few out when 2chainz and him were promoting their album about athletes.

Too bad he probably doesn't remember half of em :mjpls:

Based on the fact that Baby was kissin' nikkaz, that alone would have made goin' to the Roc a better deal  But to keep it 100 CMR got something crazy like 100 million from universal, and most of that money went behind pushing Wayne. He definitely wouldn't have been the main artist on any of Jay's labels, so in terms of being where he's at he would have never gotten there on another label. With that said, he paid a high price for his fame :wow:

Exactly

The 175k was just the non recoupable advance for Wayne ....

Because right after meeting Jay he said he received a call from Doug Morris (jay z old boss) at UNIVERSAL/DEF JAM offering millions to buyout(close) the deal

he talked about it on DEDICATION
