Ok I'll bite.
Here are artist thay I respect for their lyrical ability.
Earl Sweatshirt.
Vince Staples
Ka
G Herbo

nah.

That Vince Staples beat is cool tho. :ohhh: I think that's the best Vince Staples beat I've ever heard. Up there with Norf Norf. I normally don't fukk with his production.

and Ka's pen is decent at best.

I could run off a long ass list of new rappers' names that you probably never heard of too. lol. what does that prove?

and I'm familiar with half the list. they range from alright to good. nothing great. but I already peeped that you have lower standards, so I'm not even gonna get into a back-n-forth about that.

:damn:

Swift throat slit :wow:

As far as I'm concerned these are what new age spitters sound like.
Either you feeling it or not and you not a hater just because you don't but I damn sure know I'm fukking with it :yeshrug:
But it's kinda hard for an old head to listen to those dudes and say they pen game ain't nice without seeming like you've already made up your opinion on the new school and no artist can change it. :francis:

Now here's the thing.
You told me to post and songs from artist I fukk with lyrically.
I did that and you simply dismissed it with a "nah".
There's no point in trying to sell you on these artist I fukk with.
If you don't like it, you don't like it :yeshrug:

Actually, I never said that. You added that part. I simply asked for names and songs of people you fukk with. There was no 'lyrically'.

Also, if I was gonna hate from get-go, a) I would have never asked and b) I would have never given specific comments that show I actually listened to all those songs. I'm not incapable of liking dope shyt. I thought that Vince track had a decent beat :yeshrug:

I'm trying to understand how you think. What lines stuck out to you as "nice pen game?"

The funny thing is that nearly no old rappers hate on the new school.
A lot of NY old heads were hating in like 2005, but slowly they got used to or started appreciating that the old shyt wasn't disappearing, hiphop was just getting broader. Easily the broadest genre after rock, and it's still expanding at a solid rate. Unless you call electronic music a genre and not a term for a bunch of genres like techno, house, electro etc.

So if you're young and dislike his music? See that's why that train of thought is always a fallacy. You can't compartmentalize what's deemed "good". I can like both Rae Rremmund and Kendrick without having to weigh one against the other. There's a lane for everyone, the conscious, the ignant, the gangsta rap, etc. Now whether you're good at your lane is another story entirely.

me
But what if you a young nikka and you think this shyt is trash :jbhmm:

shyt I'm in my 20's and I mean I can rock with rappers that ain't spitting the deepest bars.

Skippy Da Flippa
Migos
Peewee Longway
Mozzy
Philthy Rich
Rich tha Kid

All make music that in my opinion goes hard.

But I took a good time out yesterday to listen to the new cats that's supposed to be making the most noise right now (Famous Dex, Lil Yachty, Lil Uzi Vert, 21 Savage etc) and it seems like complete garbage. :snoop:

So is it possible to even critique music now and days without being labeled a "hater" or "old head"? :jbhmm:

no, it's not. they using the old head shyt to overlook the fact that their music and subject matter sucks ass. as if age ever determined who knew good music

Yeah it's just the old head rap fans that are blinded by nostalgia

Maybe I'm wrong but I think that this is a core issue amongst the older heads. I'm an older head myself and this irks the hell out of me. Anytime quality hiphop/talent/lyricism is brought up, the word "dig" has to be used. We have to "find" rappers who actually.......RAP:mindblown: and meanwhile, cats who LITERALLY say that they aren't rappers (Lil Yachty) get the most shine and are FORCED down the masses throats.

What this has done is give up and coming rappers little to no incentive to actually RAP. They see these mumble, elementary, ABC type rappers getting all the fame, fortunes and IG models and they say "I want that too:ohhh:". So a dude who might can be the next Nas dumbs himself down to fit in with what's popping on the radio (and yes radio exposure helps ALOT contrary to what the coli says).

This same thing has happened in R&B also. There's little incentive to making REAL soulful R&B anymore and REAL singing, so young up & coming singers follow what's being played on the radio: this hybrid rap-singing over trap beats featuring the hottest in the moment rapper:yeshrug:

Just my take on it. I just wish there was more balance as far as actual talent getting the opportunity to have a mainstream look.

Back in my day cats like Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Canibus and even Pharoah Monch could be heard on mainstream platforms.

There was BALANCE.

THIS is the main issue imo nowadays. Like others have said, there was average-wack music back in the 90-00s too, but the thing is that you didn't have to "dig" to actually find quality artists or lyricists or whatever. There was balance and diversity in the mainstream.

And the flip side to the whole "you have to dig" argument I guess would be that people who only to the mainstream are lazy and satisfied with whatever they're being fed?:jbhmm::yeshrug:
