The preception of this Blazers team based on them making the WCF is interesting. They made a run through OKC because Donovan is apparently the only coach in the NBA that doesn't know the gameplan for Dame & they went 7 with Denver who as a team had no real playoff experience outside Millsap.
Their already capped out (pretty much at the tax line) for next year with Kanter, Hood, Curry, & Aminu all being free agents. Nurk will be back but who knows how he looks coming off that injury since it usually takes a while for guys to get going again after something like that. They don't really have money to spend to improve & would have to attach picks to move their bad contracts & that's assuming that people would want a guy like Evan Turner at $18m or that Leonard having 1 good game might have fooled someone.

The obvious answer here is to allow somebody to be paid the super max BUT you only count it against the cap as a regular max...
Instead after paying Dame Portland is going to be damn near forced to overpay to keep their current players since they can go over the cap to sign them...it's going to come down to stuff like do we sign harkless again for more than he is worth or do we sign somebody with the mle tha is worse than harkless but that is all we can afford...

This is hyperbole. It happens. Curry also had series where he didn’t show up, harden has not shown up, they still are the talent level and draw required to be max players. Y’all trying to act like this is a mike Conley talent being (over)paid the max. Even the coli’s poster boy/most hated Lebron has failed to achieve in the post season - no one would argue that’s the only metric by which he’s judged a max player. Y’all need to let the hot takes go
