People always have the ability to save, the real test is keeping your expenses low, having likeminded people both work towards an objective. It depends on income, and ambition. A man working a retail job isn’t going to have the same ability to save as a man with a better paying job. Plus, the retail employment (not retail ownership) may be a sign of not wanting better for himself.
I make 63K now but I saved more when I was making 10K less than what I am making now because I have a car payments and insurance and some loans.
But I still save money because live at home with my parents we all bring in an income and now we can purchase a new home. Sell the house with the built up equity and my parents can give me some money and I can then buy my own home.
That’s group economics but when you don’t have a strong family unit, you can’t benefit from this. And that where gmb lose.
