Lionsgate Opts Not to Renew Tyler Perry Deal

definitely not my kind of entertainment, but i want black actors to get work, especially in roles that dont just have them as sidekicks, butlers, slaves, and magical negroes. in his movies, blacks can be all kinds of characters, from the hero to villain, which is how it should be in the mainstream flicks but currently isnt. for that reason alone i hope he gets a deal with someone else

Like any mainstream AA director he is restricted to making specific types of films with a 20-30 million dollar budget if there is a black lead not named will smith/denzel washington. .

yea...one of these days a brother will get a shot at one of these 150 million dollar blockbusters....they play it so safe with those movies tho...always some kind of summer monster or comic book movie....

He was put into what he refers to as "directors jail" after he made this straight to video movie, but he's bounced back in a big way with both TLAM and RA having done well at the box office. Both have sequels coming out.

I've not seen either but....to @Mr. Somebody 's point, they both kinda look like the "specific types of films" that black directors are often warranted. I would love to see him get a shot at another big budget film...white directors certainly get numerous opportunities, and FF 1 and 2 didn't necessarily bomb (I mean, the first one did well enough for a sequel, so it's not like this dude is poison).

Far as Tyler Perry goes, honestly, I've never seen one of his movies.... I don't like the madea dress up act but I'm not necessarily against him. He can get his...I just want more of us to get ours.

When black kids from a daycare center were unfairly kicked out of a predominantly white swim club, he offered to pay for a 3 day trip to Disney World.
