wasnt it you who said that there arent any black movies being made besides one by tyler perry? :usure:...thats clearly false.

all i did was tell you that there are other black directors out there....what exactly are you arguing?
I think what i meant by that statement was in regards to a body of work. A collection of films. People are tired of Tyler Perry because he is popular but makes a specific type of film and i guess friends want a popular director who makes another type of films. Mainly male centered i guess. So for clarification thats what i was trying to say. Thank you for helping me reclarify my thought.s

thats the thing....many people arent tired of tyler perry...his movies are super successful...why should he change it up for people who dont even support what he does now? this makes no sense....

this is what needs to happen...a black director should come along and make male-oriented films (and there are guys who do this already...f gary gray...antoine fuqua...problem is that they arent as popular as Perry)...

Like any mainstream AA director he is restricted to making specific types of films with a 20-30 million dollar budget if there is a black lead not named will smith/denzel washington. .

yea...one of these days a brother will get a shot at one of these 150 million dollar blockbusters....they play it so safe with those movies tho...always some kind of summer monster or comic book movie....

This doesnt mean the end of anything. He most likely wanted more of a cut/money than they were willing to give so he decided to look elsewhere.

And yeah, his movies are awful!

sounds like he wanted more money, but lionsgate said no...which sucks cause he's made them a lot of money and been one of the reasons they've gotten bigger....but i'm sure he doesnt have to worry, he has oprah on his side, so he'll get a deal that works....

some of yall tripping with the hate for the cat...his movies might not be your cup of tea, but the cat gives plenty of black and brown people an opportunity to work in hollywood they might not get as often....i'm talking more than just actors/actresses too...so yea, i'm rooting for the cat...

edit - and yea, i dig most the movies....they can go over the top with the preaching sometimes, but for the most part they have good stories and a feel good 'no matter what everything will work out' vibe to them....which is cool, cause everything cant be dark, sadistic, etc, like they trying to make it nowadays....

i dont like his movies but he has a niche that sells, im sure he'll land on his feet whether its with oprah or not

i dont think he wants that, he wants to make movies as cheap as possible to maximize profits

i understand why a lot of males dont like his movies (madea, overly preachy, and mostly geared towards women)....i fukks with most his movies and i admit at first the overly preachy shyt got on my nerves sometimes cause it helped re enforce that thinking of 'waiting for god to fix it all for you', instead of 'while having faith and getting that assistance from god, you need to be getting off your ass and helping yourself'....which i understand why he was doing that, cause he was coming straight from the plays, and he knew who his audience was (religious black folk, espeically women)....but as his movies have gone on, he's cut back on the former and has actually started to instill more of the latter (having faith, getting assistance from god, but also doing shyt for yourself)....and what's funny about that switch in themes of his movies: he's used madea to help make that switch more than any other character...she's usually the character he has telling people 'i'm glad you believe, keep the faith, but that doesnt mean you need to sit around waiting...god helps those who help themselves, so get off your ass'...

He'll be fine. Some studio will pick him up. The truth is, the grosses of his last few flicks have gone down which has led to diminishing returns so any studio is going to cut bait at that point. Even Disney got out of the Jerry Bruckheimer business because of that. I'm not a fan of his movies at all and that's fine because I'm not his target audience at all so he could give a shyt about me but I'm not going to cheer for his downfall. It would be nice if we had another mainstream black director who could do what he wants the way Tyler does and not be on a budget. the Hughes Brothers had it like that but again, diminishing returns. At the end of the day in Hollywood, it's about the bottom line
