List circumstances you deem acceptable reasons for becoming a "fan" of a different team

Now I'm on the other side of the damn country, can never watch their games, and they get slaughtered the few times they are nationally televised.

I cant see a person being a fan and then leaving after putting in years of cheering,cussing people out,yelling at your tv, you know all the highs and lows of a fan to just switching to another team for any reason at all except if like someone earlier said your not with the team you one of those "players fans".

The thing is I'm all for loyalty to a team. Jumping ship every season from team to team every year is some SUCKA SHYT.

If you REALLY think about it.

A lot of sports fans ( a lot of y'all on this site) be lookin like STRAIGHT FOOLS showing undying loyalty to teams with owners that DONT REALLY GIVE A fukk ABOUT YOU, THE CITY, OR IMPROVING THE TEAM AND WINNING. Not only that but they cripple the local tax payers by using loop holes to make them pay for stadiums and facilities while they see nothing but PROFIT! THEN threaten to take the team to another city the first time the city/taxpayers don't agree to bend over for whatever the fukk the owners want.

I mean when is enough enough? Nikkas go so hard on somebody that decides to take their loyalty to a better brand like anybody should be able to do in a competitive market all under the guise that it makes them more of a "real fan" for cheering for a BULLshyt PRODUCT year after year , some of these owners have had a shytty team for GENERATIONS. YET THEY STILL ...... One of the few business were you get undying loyalty regardless. Cause people put they love for a fukking sports team above they family in some cases

I don't know man sometimes people be out here looking like battered wife's that know they husband ain't shyt ain't never gonna be shyt. Yet still goes back to their husband year after year. And is even proud of it.

I'm not saying its a good look to root for a different team every year. But I really could care less who somebody else root for cause it ain't that serious.

That's about it. Its acceptable to like & root for certain players but not be a fan of their team. Ex. I'm a big D.Rose fan, but I'll never be a Bulls fan.

Virtually impossible for me. My fanhood was passed down from my dad. Sticking with your team through thick and thin not only shows character, but loyalty and commitment.

Only situation where I see it's okay would be if for instance I moved somewhere else, and the place I move to doesn't have a team. But then they get one. I feel like itd be acceptable to root for them too, just not when ya OG squad is playing them.

This thread makes me want to confess my sports sins.

In '93, at the impressionable but accountable age of 13. I once secretly rooted for my life long 1st love team the Lakers to lose in game 5 vs The Phoenix Suns. But Charles Barkley was my favorite player in the world, I had his posters on my wall, his BBall cards, jersey, etc... This was the year that I had no doubt in my mind he would win the Championship to go beside his MVP award. My Lakers weren't going anywhere, they were an aging team ripe for a rebuild. The Suns beating the Lakers in the 1st round was a given, so I never actually rooted against the Lakers until game 5 at the very end when the Suns needed a gift from the refs to win that game. Chuck dunked a lob at the rim, but it was after the shot clock, just to send the game into overtime. The Suns actually lost in the 1st round to the Lakers brehs, but I was secretly glad they got the win. All my folks in the house watching the game were pissed. I had to play it off like I felt the same way as they did.
I think God punished me by having the Suns lose to the Bulls who they clearly should've beaten that year.

There is something psychologically off with someone that roots for a team outside their city. To me, its an attention thing, you just want to go against the grain to stand out. You enjoy fukking with people in rooting for a rival, rather than bonding with them in cheering for the same team. Either that or you are a front-runner...It says a lot about you as a person.

I do understand the family thing.. I will respect you if you were raised to root for a squad by a family member with an actual geographical connection to the team.

I agree that the playoffs is an exception. on some circumstances. take baseball for example. like the braves are our division rivals so I want the Dodgers to win. I want the rays to win against Boston cuz their the home team for now. I can see like Houston fans cheering the rangers during playoffs and other same state teams that don't have a rivalry. of course that can't be said for teams like Yankees/Mets,and giants/Oakland that do have a rivalry. and lastly would be just cheering for a player based on his past history, like I want miggy and the tigers to win their series. so enemy of an enemy, home state team, and former player are all acceptable reasons during the playoffs. so Cavs fans can cheer LeBron long as they rep the Cavs during regular season cuz they know they ain't seeing the playoffs. during the regular season you rep your squad. in playoffs you can root for others if your team ain't in it. if you got no allegiance with teams in a particular series, then just root for a good and exciting series and enjoy the neutrality. I think basketball is the only sport where fans mostly follow the players and not the team. like as much as its against the majority to like Kobe, I actually think he's a great player. same for Durant. now if it's heat vs Lakers or thunder then ain't no questioning my affiliation but you can still respect the other players game.

I wanted to laugh at the Blaine Gabbert post til I read the second post and realized that I root for 2/3 of those teams... If the Nets win a chip before the Knicks I'm jumping of the Madison Square Garden building.

I somewhat agree with this, I know everyone in my house were Giants fans growing up, I started following and rooting for the Jets out of spite. I can't even tell you why I hated the Giants in the first place other than not liking my family much at the time. The Jets became a surrogate family. Wins. Losses. Ups. Downs. I'll never turn my back on Gang Green. Last time they each other played on Christmas Day, me and my brother almost got into it.
