If he tried to defend his man as hard as you stans try to defend him, it wouldn't even be close. :pachaha:

Kobe played 2 seasons of good defense, and that was with SHaq to clog the lane.

:props:

Kobe is the Randy Moss of the NBA when it comes to defense....he plays it when he wants:manny:

When Kobe WANTS to clamp some one down, he does:

Notice...No Shaq in any of these videos with Kobe.:ohhh:

So playing defense on 1 or 2 possessions a game is enough to make you a great defender, even though perimeter players have been running a train on Kobe since 2003. Larry Hughes dropped 40 on his head.

Larry hughes. :troll:

Actually, up until maybe 2011, Kobe held his opponents at SG to some pretty low PER ratings. I really don't see how you could quantify that statement.

Kobe was a very good defender from 99-10 IMO even great at some points. Probably started to tail off once he hit 30 though.

He was good during the second and third title runs. However, his style of defense was playing up-close and personal (which is what he still does). This allows faster guys to slip by him. When Shaq was in the lane, this style of defense worked. When shaq left and Kobe had no bigs anchoring the paint, perimeter players blew by him regularly. This wasn't just in his 30's this was 2004 onwards.

He also never adjusted fully to the rule changes. This is one of those flash vs substance issues, really. Perimeter defense requires flexibility and solid footwork. Prime Bruce Bowen and Ron Artest are good examples.

I don't agree. The only thing Kobe really has trouble on defense is fighting through picks. He was never good doing that probably because he didn't want to waste the energy. Later ie 2010+ on he stopped caring about closing out on 3 shooters which would also get him trouble.

But defenders blowing by him on the perimeter in his prime? Nah.

:heh:

In his prime, elite players like Lebron, TP, and Wade blew past him. BUt even secondary and tertiary players like Devin Harris, Larry Hughes, and Melo got in his ass.
