You sound crazy.

9th's beats were far from basic when he was chopping samples like people weren't really doing before him. Yeah he was reusing drums but the way he manipulated samples was top tier.

He has a style and signature sound but he's not just flipping soul samples over boom bap drums and he's done R&B songs:

Listen to his newer instrumental albums and he's doing different things.

And Pete Rock may be a conspiracy nut and a weirdo but he's still dope on production.

Yea 9th chop game is elite. These same nikkaz saying 9th beats are basic probably like Nicholas craven
Yeah, 9th is absolutely one of the best choppers of all time. One of the very best at dicing up lots of sections from all over a sample, and sequencing it to where it sounds choppy but still keeps a lot of the groove and the melody. That's super hard to do.

My favorite producer in 2023 and probably 2022.
Griselda needs to just let him do the drums for Daringer and these other dudes. I'm tired of that slow ass, low bpm shyt with no swing.

I hated on 9th for a long time due to his snares having the same sound but he's really evolved over the last decade. Few years ago he was doing a lot of drum break stuff which I like. IMO he's always been dope overall and I love all the LB stuff he did, I just felt for a long time that the snares sounded so weird and punch-less. Couldn't understand how he spent so much time around Guru and great producers without figuring it out.

I love the Daringer drums but yeah they overuse it.

I think 9th started to get his drums right once he stopped using Fruity Loops. Probably started to get better drum kits. It was never about his patterns just reusing that same snare.

Finally getting around to these and I like them both.

As for 9th, I'd love a reunion down the line but it seems like LB know what they're trying to do and are picking the right producers already (Black Milk, Nottz, Conductor etc) so I'm good with whatever they put out

It's wild right, in context. Usually when a group/duo breaks up and the producer bounces, the rappers end up using all types of wack production. You end up like Guru with Solar, or CL Smooth's solo albums. LB have had nearly an impeccable ear for beats and producers though. Not just now, even going back to Getback they just have a knack for surrounding themselves with the best underground producers.

No doubt, and they both have a lot of good relationships with other producers that are dope. Pooh's done full projects with Nottz, Black Milk, Apollo Brown, Focus... Phonte is close with those guys too, Hi-Tek, Mr. Porter, Conductor, etc.

Between the two of them they can get a lot of really dope beats.

I remember my boy talking about how wack he DJed a party for CIAA. Too much “wheat Tim” music that didn’t allow for the women to dance. Probably the best DJ I’ve heard him and others say is DJ Jazzy Jeff. Dude understands region differences and energy.

My Mom and niece were just at the NAACP National convention and DJ Jazzy Jeff DJ’d at one of the dances they had. I saw some videos. It was LIT
