Sound Reasoning
I saw someone say the definition of being rich/wealthy is when you don't have to work anymore. I agree with that.

But there's a huge gap between being a paycheck away from homeless, and never having to work again. Plus even people living on retirement funds and wealth still have to stay within some kind of budget :yeshrug:

I see what you are saying but I think you are grossly oversimplifying. Lot of people are living on the razor's edge financially for no reason.

You're right. Maybe I am oversimplifying because I don't get what the phrase actually means. Unless we're not worrying about getting paid, because we have enough money or assets to cover life, then we're still looking forward to that next check.

Yea, it's better to have 3-6 months of living expenses stacked than having nothing. No argument here. But even so, we still need those checks to keep coming as we don't want to touch that 3-6 months unless absolutely necessary.

I'm not trying to clown. I honestly just never got that statement, but I agree with stacking some money for a rainy day :manny:

Peace

We had a thread about this way back when it was first posted. I created a spreadsheet and shared it with the brehs on here.

The spreadsheet shows you how much you could save if you manipulate these numbers in the table. Instead of increments of $1 you can chose to do $3 or $5 and so on. It was pretty neat. A lot of the brehs dowbloaded it. I used and saved $3K from january to october

Still got that sheet breh?

Sadly, i have many friendS who live like this and they are making over $100K

One of the worst example is my homie who lives here in ATL. Per his girl he has $0 savings. Was talking to him about 401k once and his response was "Never had one". Owes over $100K in student loans and has never paid them so Credit is bad. He drives a Porsche now and rents an nice apt in a nice neighborhood.Sure you Gotta have your toys. Life is to be enjoyed. But if all the stuff you are splurging on is at the expense of other essentials...Makes me question things.

I try to tell him to make better decisions but he is set in his ways. One thing i'll give him is that he's very confident in his ability to hustle and will find a way to make money if he were to be without a job. Props to him. Wish i could live on the edge like that but I'm too paranoid for that lifestyle. At least he's frugal in everything else he does but he spends a lot of money on toys.

And the worst case is probably my other homeboy. Makes about $120K a year. Spends it all on women and partying to the point where he always needs to borrow money every couple of months. Sh!t is amazing to me. When yo hang with this guy at a club if you're not careful he'll make you spend $400 in a heartbeat. i had to tell homie I dont play them games. I work hard for mine. But where he fukks up is this: He doesnt pay his taxes either. He gets his whole check from his job and always says he'll file them at the end of the year and doesnt. Dude thinks the IRS plays around in this country. He's only been here a few years tho... He'll learn. If there is one person you dont fukk around with in the U.S.A. it's the I.R.S.

I work with many dudes like this on my job. They out here making good money but on that struggle life because they want to pay $2500-$4000 per month for an apartment in downtown DC or NoVA, leasing the latest foreign cars and they out here with their pockets looking like rabbit ears in the middle of the week.

Dude gonna tell me his struggles about his rent but don't want to move to a cheaper place.:dahell: They out here paying more money for an apartment than most people pay for mortgages.:dahell:

Basically you put it the increment you wanna user in the green box. Play with some numbers like $1 or 3$ or $5. It will show you what you need to deposit to your savings each week of said year. Then watch the numbers adjust in Columns C-J

Column D= Week #
Column E = What you should put away THAT week
Columns F= How much you would have saved thus far by date in Column C
Columnt J is a monthly update view and I is quarterly.

Mind you it's been a while since ive done this and i havent had time to updae it. I set the date to 2016 for your convenience. I meant to redo it so it can be easier to use but havent had time. I wanted to update it so you can used multiple amounts thoughout the year.

Let's put it this way i did this sh!t for 7 months once and wound up saving 3K without knowing it using automatic transfers. Mind you i woul go back anc change the amounts i put in from time to time.

The struggle then becomes KEEPING it that way :russ:
I've had some relapses lately but im about to get back on my grind. I saw my moms savings account and was like :whoo: because i know i make almost twice as much as her.
P.S. DOnt over-extend yourself. Play with small numbers from $1-$5. You may think $5 is easy but then you look at the later months you see that $5 increases will then be asking you to put away almost $400 in one month. Patience and sticking to the plan is key.

When i put a better one together i'll share it. My excel skills are lacking. Need to brush up

Real good stuff in this thread man. I'm one of those dudes that lives paycheck to paycheck, no need to front. :francis: I rack up a lot of lil avoidable expenses (tickets, fast food runs, weed, etc), on top of my big ass car note, my unreasonably high car insurance, and other bills. That leaves my pockets empty with no room to save. It really comes down to discipline, how discipline are you to not make purchases you do not need to make, as well as being able to set aside some cash whenever you get paid that you absolutely do not touch. I'm coming up on a rack and a half next month so I will definitely start my savings with that cash. I'm tired of living paycheck to paycheck :snoop:
