Counterproductive post. How the hell would +80k just sitting in savings be beneficial? You're pouring jelly on your self

Better doing that than needing the money and not having it at all.

You don't think people try that? One expensive car repair can wipe out your savings or one unexpected expense.
This right here set me back a few times. Blown trans on an old van = 2.4k vanishing. The 3 years I was without a car saw the most gains in savings. I couldn't catch up before.
Those random expenses, not just car related, fukk EVERYTHING up.

You have a point....I see the initial arrogance in me in making this thread...Not everyone is as blessed as everyone else, life is not fair...I should have titled the thread "if you dont have to live check to check, thank God"

I don’t care if you can only put away $50 a paycheck, put something aside..always pay yourself first. If you can’t do that, it means you are living above your means..Even if you live with moms, you should be able to put something aside…I work with people making $50k and up a year and many are running on fumes come the middle of the 2nd week after payday..This is unacceptable and if this is your lifestyle, it means you are irresponsible, especially if you are over the age of 25.

Some might say "I got bills, thats why I'm broke" ..To that I say, if you are coming up short by the end of the first week, somethings gotta go, cable, internet, dining out etc..nygga, something gotta go..The problem is people don't want to let go of what think everyone else has...nikka you can't afford 5 premium channels, cut dat shyt down to 1 or get rid of cable all together..I'm sick of people asking me for money, many of whom make more than me :pacspit:

I understand student loans is a big one, I'll give you nyggas a pass to a degree but if you debt free and check to check :pacspit: fuk ya....

Get yo fukn life 2getha b…Fuk wrong wit u?:what:

only debt I have is my mortgage. my car is 11 years old and still runs great. student loans been paid. and my pops taught me about paying myself when I was a kid. like dude literally beat that concept into me.

besides putting money in my 401K (make sure you get the full match from ur employer), I put away at least $500 a month in an account I cant' touch and I been doin that for years. the remainder of my income after paying bills, I save as well. but that is in an account that I do have access to.

Sadly, i have many friendS who live like this and they are making over $100K

One of the worst example is my homie who lives here in ATL. Per his girl he has $0 savings. Was talking to him about 401k once and his response was "Never had one". Owes over $100K in student loans and has never paid them so Credit is bad. He drives a Porsche now and rents an nice apt in a nice neighborhood.Sure you Gotta have your toys. Life is to be enjoyed. But if all the stuff you are splurging on is at the expense of other essentials...Makes me question things.

I try to tell him to make better decisions but he is set in his ways. One thing i'll give him is that he's very confident in his ability to hustle and will find a way to make money if he were to be without a job. Props to him. Wish i could live on the edge like that but I'm too paranoid for that lifestyle. At least he's frugal in everything else he does but he spends a lot of money on toys.

And the worst case is probably my other homeboy. Makes about $120K a year. Spends it all on women and partying to the point where he always needs to borrow money every couple of months. Sh!t is amazing to me. When yo hang with this guy at a club if you're not careful he'll make you spend $400 in a heartbeat. i had to tell homie I dont play them games. I work hard for mine. But where he fukks up is this: He doesnt pay his taxes either. He gets his whole check from his job and always says he'll file them at the end of the year and doesnt. Dude thinks the IRS plays around in this country. He's only been here a few years tho... He'll learn. If there is one person you dont fukk around with in the U.S.A. it's the I.R.S.

your buddy is a jackass. might as well set his money on fire.

not only arrogance

you dont know shyt

let your 20 something ass catch some REAL life expenses - like a home and sick spouse or child

or you have to take care of a parent

or if YOUR ass gets hurt /sick and now YOU cant work - let that shyt happen in your 30's - or 40's - plus maybe having to help care for an ailing parent

you dont know shyt about real expenses or how people live

People who don't know what to do with that type of money don't deserve to have any.

Meanwhile if I had that type of cashflow I'd be living nice.

:banderas:

Thats why they dont want black men in America to have money....

This country loves to see black people struggle.

im lucky that im not - thats the thing-

i used to think like this - but when you hit your 30's you start to see shyt WAY different - once a home and kids and spouse comes into the picture and thats before the REAL shyt happens -

theres a whole generation of young dudes that are earning paper but they say a lot of silly shyt and they dont pay attention to the signposts of those that went before them not even 10 years before - there are dudes who in their 20s now thinkn like they are gonna earn what they earn when tey get in their late 30's or 40s -

there are people now in their 40s that have crazy skills and cant find a job because of the economy - and in your 30s and 40s - thats when any kinda health problems you have start to crop up - and 30s and 40s is when your kids if you had them in your 20s are about to be REALLY expensive -

30's and 40s is when your parents are getting up there and unless they had a really good job you are only half way ahead because a parent being sick is like having TWO extra kids -

grown man problems is shyt like a mortgage, college, dental bills and running your business or just staying inn the running at work -

a dude in his 20's lecturing people about how shyt should be or if X is this then that means you are fukking up - he aught to be slapped in the face with a brick

niqqa think because he can make a car payment and a cellphone bill he has life figured out ......

Sound Reasoning
I never got the "living paycheck to paycheck" line. Sounds like another middle class diatribe people tell themselves, so they can act like they're more well off than they are.

On some "Yea, I have $112.32 left in my checking account and I get paid tomorrow. Aren't I smart?" :skip:

If you get a paycheck, you live paycheck to paycheck. Because you budget your bills and living expenses per those paychecks. And even if you have some money left over, it's doubtful that couple hundred left will pay for the next two weeks of bills and expenses. So, you're waiting on the next check to make up the difference, so you can do it all over again. Unless you're using the money you saved, which would defeat the purpose.

Yea, you should stack some money for emergencies. But just call it what it is....saving some money for emergencies :yeshrug:

But eggheads always have to come up with some middle class code word to make themselves feel like they're part of a club :mjlol:

I saw someone say the definition of being rich/wealthy is when you don't have to work anymore. I agree with that.

But there's a huge gap between being a paycheck away from homeless, and never having to work again. Plus even people living on retirement funds and wealth still have to stay within some kind of budget :yeshrug:

I see what you are saying but I think you are grossly oversimplifying. Lot of people are living on the razor's edge financially for no reason.
