Somebody should have told LL that song was a bad idea. Hell he should have known it.

He's more known as an actor now than a rapper. He's like Queen Latifah, Ice T/Cube and the like. He should just let it be.

He's a real MC fam, it's deeper than what butters your bread. He obviously ain't really worried about sales. He's flopped before so I doubt he's expecting anything besides getting/giving that rush that comes with the craft and the the props that would come with dropping something legit.

Ice T is a legend but he is a pimp by nature, he wasn't rapping for the fukk of it. Queen La is so far removed from that and was ghostwritten anyway (still love her), LL has always been a competitor.

Ironically, this is his problem...stop tryna make pop shyt and shyt that the 20 year olds are making...

If LL made an album that had that early-mid 90's sound, it would pop...

Funny shyt is these hipsters will dikkride biters who do 90's music but probably wouldn't respond as favorably to the real deal.

Nobody's telling Prince to stop making music, so why LL? But as a near 50 year old he just should stay away from the braggadocio I'm better than you swagger rap of his younger self. Rap is not gonna be taken over by a 50 year old, and he's not going to gain new fans, so he shouldn't be shooting for that.
A 2016 version of Mr Smith would be cool

"So while you’re in it try to get as much shyt as you can and when your run is over just admit when it's at its end."

Word. Canibus destroyed LL, then Def Jam and their politics destroyed Canibus. I still rememeber listening to Hot 97 when they debuted LL's response, I never seen or heard such exaggerated fukkery and gassing and politics, shyt was sickening, Def Jam made moves, the fix was in somethin serious
LL roasted Canibus. Canibus came at LL with facts and shyt. I was in high school at the time and everybody was saying LL won just off that song that came with the DMX debut album.

nikka need to attach another L to his name
He isn't a loser at all. I mean rap is a young man's game. It's not a beloved genre of music. You don't get old and still manage to stay relevant. You don't typically get stuff like the Rolling Stones in rap.

People in rap have not dropped like 7 classic, genre defining albums like the Rolling Stones either, sold 200M WW, dropped several of the biggest classic hit songs of all times over 20 years etc. No rappers are from the era where pop culture was defined either. Rock bands from the 90s are not booming like that either. Let's not forget that rock is by far the biggest genre too, without having anything boomin on the billboards.

So is it really about hiphop? Or is it about the era from which these guys are and/or the greatness they achieved.

No rappers have achieved that level of greatness, but we have dudes like Dr. Dre headlining Coachella and could probably put together a big tour. Dudes like Jay-z and Eminem will do this too, as long as they sound good. I don't know why people just reach a super simple conclusion about it being about rap, when there's several factors explaining this.
