Album is decent, although it is very frontloaded and kinda tails off towards the end

A couple of takeaways

1. Banks needs to find an engineer thats knows how to mix his vocals correctly, or at least find a suitable mic for his voice
2. Roc Marci sounds like he recorded his verse in a cave. Way too much reverb

Holey Water, the bible and sasuage pizza is decent too right

Banks is a great rapper. But this album ain’t it and proves he needs someone like 50 or Rick Ross (the irony) the executive produce and help him craft bettter songs.

Take, Break Me Down, if he had a singer or Lil Durk sing this hook it would’ve been :ahh:, and that’s as an isolated track. But this was after hearing him do hook after hook, in a fairly monotonous way + content that sounds like it could’ve been spit 10 years ago, he just isn’t showing growth as an artist or man. :to: I left with a hunger for more.

And even in terms of spitting, his features all ate him. Maybe sans Gibbs.
lol... he hasnt had 50 in years and has released great products....This take aint it

bro I always respected your opinion but gotta disagree with you on this. How has he shown no growth when he went from a punchline rapper who only mainly rapped about money, guns and women to a rapper with a way more dense style of lyricism and has great introspective tracks now as well.

Also you’re crazy thinking Gibbs didn’t get bodied by Banks too on this

Only two that held right there with Banks was Styles and Ranson...Benny was short, Roc recorded in a tunnel Gibbs wasnt better and I like vado but banks was better on this.

@Tunez when and why did banks switch from his deep voice he came out with, to the higher pitched voice he kept?

looking back it was kind of after rotten apple i think he started rapping in a higher voice. Ive never seen a rappers voice change so drastically

He was damaging his voice, definitely after rotten Apple

I respect this response and usually don’t do the back and forth but because of the former, let me explain more.

I hear you in the punchline evolution but to me that started in the 5 and better series. Since then, he still raps about money and chicks and stylistically he’s pretty much the same in terms of cadence, delivery and rhyme schemes. Once in a while he’ll get introspective but it’s seldom. At 39, you’ve seen his peers mature in terms of content and even perspectives. Take Royce Da 5’9 as a prime example.

Again, Banks can rap, I’m looking at this album and stacking it against his own career as well as his contemporaries. I just expected more after over a decade w/o an “official” album vs mixtape.

And btw, I did already say that Gibbs didn’t outshine Banks but I wouldn’t say Banks bodied him either.

Banks rapping his ass off and still one of the best out, but I thought a lot of these beats were bland outside of some standouts, His AON tapes were better to me

Crown & Smoke & Mirrors are the best to me

Californ-i-a by way of BK
Finished the album. Second half didn't keep up with the first half for me personally.

Banks was fire throughout, from a pure MCing stand point, but it got kinda boring and it's mostly the production. Not all of the beats are mediocre, but a good portion of them. I kept like 6 tracks, but the production to me is not on par with Banks rapping at all. Who did these beats?

I can't grade it yet. As dope a lyricist and MC Banks is, something is missing from his presentation to hold my attention for a project this long. I had my concerns once I saw it was 17 tracks. If he cut it down to 10, it would in album of the year contender. But it gets kinda bloated to me. The way he delivers his message and content kinda stays formulaic maybe my biggest critique of his rapping. He a rapping ass nikka for sure, but that's it. And there's only so much I can listen of that, without providing more depth.
