Why didn't the whiskey QB knell it then toss it to the ref, I'm not getting the whole lay the ball down thing. And even if the ref spotted the ball right away im not sure they get it off, the team didn't have any urgency

Them ASU players knew to bullshyt. Wisconsin's players should've known to get lined up. The only reason the ref got delayed was because the QB started arguing. In real time it did look like a fumble. Next time they know to hand it to the ref.
