The sum doesn't tell the whole story, hypothetically, 1 million + 70% of sales + budget per album + 100 % of tour and anything else.
or 10 million million incl 7 album budgets + 5 % of sales until you reach a target + 20 % of tour + 20% of endorsements + 20% of anything else you do. Add weak royalties, selling masters etc.
You really can't say much about what deal is better until after the deal.
In any event 30 million is amazing before hand.

Yeah, 50 got a mill plus, 5 album contract, that exceeded that number by a large margin, because it was mainly based on performance. Ex: He would be getting an extra mill every mill or 2 million records per album sold (this is not a factual info on his contract, just illustrating). He had a smaller budget, but a promise to get a lot if the records performed well.
But in that era, record labels weren’t looking much aside from record and singles sales. Nobody was considering huge endorsements or video games for that matter as an example, and most of the artists could make 10x more outside of the record contract. Nowadays is totally different. I can bet my money, that logic is now on a huge leash. If its already contractually stipulated that they’ll be fronting him 30 mill, they got every single cell of his body under contract, he prolly can’t sell a toilet seat filled up with his own shyt, without the label getting a piece of the $
