I applaud the cats wearing GQ suits lookin like businessmen AND the brehs who were comfortable, not the ones dressed like dead fashion designers

Is BET the standard for what black folks should live by. Do you want BET to teach your kids what it is to be a man or woman in general? Probably not. For me this isn't a race thing. This is a society thing. Your not conforming to anything by dressing for the occasion. If he was trying to make a statement by not going on stage and not dressing up then it does more to damage our community than help it. If anything this feeds the stereo types even more. If Marshawn wants to be himself...cool. But it shouldn't be applauded as if he didn't give his seat up on the bus or something
I don't want ESPN doing it neither. Dude is being himself and not following what's going on today. He should be applauded for not conforming. He's not breaking any laws, he's college educated, Mark Cuban said you couldn't pay him to dress up everyday.

He should be applauded because he wore a beanie and a t-shirt to an award show?

:what:

I mean it's fine that Marshawn didn't want to dress up and he probably didn't want to be there in general. But that shyt ain't worth applauding like he's some activist that took a stand.

Those weird ass outfits don't standout anymore. Marshawn seems to be the only nikka whose attire stood out last night.
But now you are moving the goal post. We talmbowt whether fruity wear get roast or not. And they do
They all stand out because they are the focus of getting roasted
Fruity wear get roasted. Overly hood wear get roasted, just like the Dream got roasted with what he wore to that awards show a few years back, where he looked too extra in his "nonchalant" attempt to be edgy

See this is the point I'm making with the cherry pick which extravagantly pointless circle jerk event to make a big deal of and which not to. All of them are based in white folks claiming is a big deal, so if you are willing to accept a cac's over hyping of one circle jerk event, you can't now be claiming to not care about cac's over hyping and acceptance for another. That's not consistant

I agree that money shouldn't change you, but I also recognize the reality that 50 said too....if money hasn't changed you, then you haven't made enough. Either case, Marshawn should've kept it a buck by not attending such an event. If clothing doesn't mean anything, then be consistent with that philosophy by not adjusting to any event's attire, including boardroom deals because as you suggested, Bill Gates is still a billionare whether he wears a suit or a t-shirt

Ok I can understand that cherry picking thing but you gotta be real those two things I named are a lot more prestigious than the espys. I wouldn't care if someone dressed down at one of those events too I was glad Three 6 came as they were rather than feel the need to not be themselves. Why do you have to even make it an absolutist type of position to hold? People have the right to pick and choose when and how they dress up, for that matter yes they can go in boardrooms in jeans and a t shirt if they got that kinda power. I just don't like this bullshyt that just because Marshawn has the means to wear a nice suit he can't or he shouldn't dress like he would on the block. That's bullshyt.

what don't you get?

saggy pants and a beanie to any event = keeping it real

well dressed = c00n submitting to cac acceptance

No one said he should be aplauded simpleton. We're simply saying he shouldn't be CASTIGATED for it, like many of you are doing. The entire ESPY's is a terrible fukking concept anyways. Glorifying individual accomplishments in team sports. Just feeding the ego of already egotistic athletes, so that when these athletes allow their falsely inflated egos to get them into trouble, ESPN will be right there with cameras rolling, ready to exploit their misfortunes for big bucks.

I applaud beast mode because he is being AUTHENTIC to whom he is. He has always been reticent and antisocial, and im sure wouldn't have come had he not been coaxed and cajoled by his teamates and likley plenty of ESPN boosters.

I say let him be him. We enjoy him due to his talents on the football field, not because of his gregarious and engaging personality! People need to get a life.

Well i don't really have a problem with Marshawn being Marshawn. What im annoyed with is you believing that not dressing up at a prestigious event ( whether you think so or not) is somehow a representantation of a black man fighting his oppressors or "the system".Mark cuban said everyday. He didn't say you couldn't pay him to dress up at an professional event or professional establishment. We are gonna have to agree to disagree if you think that deserves applause.

I shouldn't have said he deserved to be applauded, I should've said he shouldn't be shamed for it.

At this point, dudes a fukking goof.

He's attention seeking but trying to look like he doesn't want attention.

If he really didn't attention, just don't show up.

And he hates the attention so much he's doing the cover of E!spn magazine.

That's subjective. To you they're more prestigious. A guy like Marshawn might not care about any of them. Juicy J didn't dress up for the Oscar's when Three 6 won, but he dressed up for the Grammy's this year.

In the end I agree though that these guys shouldn't be shamed or applauded for what they choose to wear.
