That isn't entirely true. Missy was not a nobody in 1996. She spent 1996 collaborating with the likes of 702, New Edition, Aaliyah, Ginuwine, MC Lyte, Gina Thompson, etc. She got her own label under the condition that she dropped an album, yet nobody was checking for Missy?

I cannot unhear Missy singing "it's all about the benjamins" hook after reading this story. I often think about how it all went down. "Benjamins" is a favorite of mine. Never thought Missy had anything to do with it, but her finger prints are on the song now that I think about it. That hook sounds like a textbook Missy hook now that I think about it. Not only that, but Kim's "wanna rumble with the bee, huh bzzzz" is also textbook Missy. Not saying she wrote Kim's verse, but I could see her inspiring that line or throwing it out there.
