For those who gotta get loans, you can't be out there bullshytting when you get to school and majoring in trash that won't recoup if you finish. That's the bottom line and that's why I say that shyt is an investment. For the college should be a right crowd, that's cool, but it ain't reality. I'm definitely in favor of community/junior colleges being free or even lower of a cost, but ain't shyt free in this capitalistic society.

I truly believe that student loans should go away as a whole, that's what will drive the costs of college down. Right now there's no market pressure for colleges to lower costs, rather they raise costs knowing financing is available. Take away financing (loans) and costs come down dramatically. Same reason why cars are so expensive now, they know there's all kinds of loans they can finesse people into.

Bout to finish my student loans in a month or two, probably wouldve done it sooner but I refi and got 1.5% rate. Payments were like $115 month.

Came out of med/biz school w $250K on her head. Started paying them back, probably will take us 15 years. We just had a daughter and have started putting $800 month away for her college fund.

the main reason I did EVERYTHING to get out in 4 years flat was cuz I knew I was accruing student loan debt. and by everything, that means I was taking classes in the summer at community college, taking winter classes during xmas break and finding a paid internship that gave me credits along with paying me. I had plenty of friends who finished in 4.5 to 6 years. the amount u save by graduating on time is . I didn't have the greatest grades, but I didn't have a bullshyt major and I finished and got my loans paid off.

but if u finish in 5 years, that's certainly better than cats who go to school for 2-3 years and drop off with nothing to show for it other than student loans.

If you choose to go to an expensive college/out of state college and major in something that doesn't guarantee you a high paying job after you graduate, then you deserve to be in debt for the rest of your life. Too many people go to big schools to party or say that they go there when they clearly cant afford . They can get their degree for a lot cheaper but nobody wants to go to a lame community college. Don't give me that "but...but...the school's reputation" ,getting a job/internship is really all about who you know
anyway, I go to school for free( pay only for my books that I rent) and even get some free money when refunds drop
I don't have to pay anything back either( grants and scholarships)

I think sooner rather than later you'll see a shift back to trades. There's a shortage of good tradesmen because people are brainwashed to think college is the only way. Soon people should realize they can learn a lifetime skill for much cheaper, become their own boss, and eat great for life.

shyt my childhood friend is a convicted felon learned a trade and now owns his own company. He clears over 300k and he's his own boss. Smh go figure I do the "right" route n he outearning me by a ton.

U have to be VERY careful on what u are getting a Student Loan for.. I got a Student Loan for a private nursing school for 30 thousand, I worked 2 jobs and paid it off in 9 months.. The key is to pay it off IMMEDIATELY.. The interest rates are crazy high, so if u plan to pay it off in the ten year plan it's basically going to double.
