There's a big difference between being alone and being lonely. Being alone just means you're content with your own company. Loneliness is the inner desire to connect with another human being/pet.

Personally speaking, keeping to myself saved me from getting into a bunch of trouble. Being selective gives you the driver seat to choose who you let in your kingdom. Not all company supplements you. Be cognizant of your environment.

Being alone makes you more introspective. Gives you mental input on what needs to change. Inner therapy.

Being a loner gets a bad rep because US/western world promotes extroversion as normality. If you're aren't seen with/group with people 24/7, it creates the picture that "something is wrong with you" far from the truth. Solitude is a necessity to remain sane in such a unhealthy society.
