Lookin' like a stage production in some parts, 4K took the feel out of the performance somehow.
Higher resolution isn't always the way to go.
Been looking for a VCR lately.
That’s what I was saying, it looks like it’s a “behind the scenes” shoot instead of the actual production. I like it though, shyt is smooth and color corrected and also much sharper. You can see a ton more detail that was missing from the original broadcasts.

I’m a little confused though. The video for Thriller says uploaded 13 years ago. Has it really been up that long and we’ve just didn’t know or did YouTube backdate the videos?

THATS 80S MAKEUP
OVER BROWN SKIN....

NOT LIGHT SKIN.

YOU COULDNT SEE IT
ON OLD GRAINY FILM
BUT NOW YOU CAN SEE IT CLEAR
AS DAY IN 4K.

THATS WHY BLACK WOMEN
DIDNT WEAR HEAVY MAKE UP FOR
THE MOST PART UNTIL THEY
STARTED CREATING MAKEUP
FOR DARKER PPL IN
THE LAST 20 YRS.

This is facts.
Black people, BW especially, have long had an issue with makeup and how it makes our skin look on film.
First off, they didn't really make make up for Black people until maybe the 70's
White makeup artists in Hollywood had no idea how to do make up on us. Nor how to light us for film. Just like they dont know what to do with our hair.
Matter of fact there's a clip out there of MJ trying to hold in his frustration with some cac hairstylist because he didn't understand his curl.

Many BW celebrities, like The Supremes, chose to do their own makeup because otherwise they'd make you look like you just worked a shift in the coalmine.
Other than Prince, who did his own makeup, BM in Hollywood just rolled with what the cac makeup artists did.

With 4k, you can see a lot of the flaws that used to be masked by the blurriness, so in the VCR, it looks like he was actually at a club, but in the 4k version, you can clearly see it's a stage. 4k can kind of ruin a lot of older movies that were developed before high resolution was available.

They call this "the soap opera effect".
When flat screen TVs first went mainstream, a lot of people didn't like how it made things look.
The tech industry fixed that after about year or so.
