Tbh I want something bespoke or made to measure.

Suit supply will do M2M. And that'll push past 1K easily.

But if you're gonna spend 1500 on a suit, go to Hong Kong. (not Thailand, not Philippines, not Vietnam, HK only)

You've got Savile Row trained tailors who made suits for the British Bankers.

HK is a dope city, full stop.

A week there is worth the $, and you should be able to get what you need in terms of suits and shirts. I can't speak on 7 fold ties and bespoke shoes, but i'm sure they can accomodate.

Low key, on my bucket list is to have a western style suit made with local colorful fabric, or at least western wool on top, but chinese dress silks for the liner. Shout out to my man Wale Oyedije.

Styleforum will have the current list of great HK tailors.

Buy these colors in this orders:
  • Charcoal
  • Navy
  • Light Grey
  • Medium Blue
  • Cotton Navy Suit or Blazer

Where you buy depends on your budget. Fit has trumped everything else over the past 20 years. A good fitting JCPenny Suit is better to have than a ill-fitted Zegna suit. Here are my suit buying recommendations

  • Suit Supply (Not Cheap, Not Expensive, but great value for the money)
  • Mens Warehouse (Cheap and questionable quality, but many of the old independent men's wear store owners retired and moonlight at places like MW. If you find one of those old guys, they will steer you away from the crap and hook you up)
  • Nordstrom (Overpriced, but the staff will make sure the suit is well fitted. I sold suits at one for a summer. I learned a ton from the old guard. Again old guys who use to own their own menswear stores.)

Once you know how a suit should fit you, places like Banana Republic and J Crew have decent quality suits and good prices, when on sale to take advantage of, but ZERO knowledgeable people to guide you.

Here is a good starter video on fit. I've been following this dude for over a decade and he would be my personal stylist if I had the dough.

I want to own more suits for more than just funerals. I also like the way I look in suits. I've been working from home for 4 years and I have bulked up since going into MMA so I haven't really had to buy anything. But I have a desire to now.
I find myself wearing suits less, but I find sportscoats extremely versatile.

Obviously a navy suit will be a catch all for you. If you're a thicker guy I always recommend single pleats for mobility for your trousers. You also can find lighter weight fabric. I'd also recommend no shoulder padding since you're muscular.

I'd still invest in some sportscoats for times when you want to dress smart but the social setting may not call for a full suit.

You mentioned a three piece also. I have a three piece suit and I find it's good to have the waistcoat for the rate occasion

I have 5 suits, got 1 from Macy’s, the rest from Men’s Wearhouse. 3 of them are 3-piece ones between 700 and 1k per suit, MW ordered what I wanted and tailored them to fit, my go to place. Macy’s had an insane deal for 45% off on a jacket and pants that I couldn’t pass up. All my suits are Calvin Klein, Tommy Hilfiger, and Kenneth Cole.
