I think it's relative to some degree. The forum that Vlad has given Jamar allows him to reinvent himself as an elder statesman of the culture. I say reinvent because, he was by and large a forgotten artist. Even when Brand Nubian was doing their thing, he was more or less that other guy. We were checkin for Puba, and to a lesser extent, Sadat who went on to have a better career than Puba in the long run. Jamar not so much. So now he's reinvented himself as a sort of conscience for the music and culture and speaks authoratively as if he was one of the Golden Age's pillars. He can say whatever he wants, it still doesn't negate the fact that he was never quite that popular.
At the same time though I agree with you. Just because he wasn't a mega success, doesn't invalidate his points or arguments. I don't agree with everything he's said, but I don't disagree with all of his positions either. Some of the sh!t he's said was absolutely necessary to hear. Really, nothing he's said is all that damn controversial either, it's just that too many people don't want to talk about those things either out of fear or willful ignorance.
