Listen, if that's how you see it...whatever. I just don't see why some people get so red faced furious over his views. Must be touching a nerve :sas2:

It's cool let him have his opinion because ain't nobody on the planet ever gonna consider his old dusty ass even close to the top 100:jaylol:

Who gives a fvck if anyone considers if he's a Top 100 MC? :what:

What the fvck does that have to do with anything?

Must be touching a nerve :sas2:

his overall philosophies and views may be genuine but the shyt he says while articulating his overall views are definitely meant to ruffle feathers

Ok, I kinda skipped over that thread this past weekend. I have to visit it and see if that was out of context. Damn near everything else he's said I've agreed with. Him saying that you'll never see any group of black dudes in the hood bumping Eminem was pretty accurate.

No it's not I've seen plenty of hood dudes bump em & if you agree with most of his statements your semi racist

What hood you from? And I agree with basically everything he's stated. Why does that make me semi-racist?

Vlad has something on Jamar lmao.

Jamar is just expressing his views, I don't agree with everything at all, I strongly disagree with some of it and he contradicts himself at times but he is entitled to say what he thinks, he says real shyt too. He's just using shyt as a platform, not really an issue with that, either agree or disagree and keep it moving. No need to get upset about what he says.

Naw, not at all. I just don't understand what Jamar's standing as an MC has to do with what he's saying. Has he ever claimed to be a top MC in any of these Vlad clips? I don't know. Maybe I missed it. Enlighten me.

I think it's relative to some degree. The forum that Vlad has given Jamar allows him to reinvent himself as an elder statesman of the culture. I say reinvent because, he was by and large a forgotten artist. Even when Brand Nubian was doing their thing, he was more or less that other guy. We were checkin for Puba, and to a lesser extent, Sadat who went on to have a better career than Puba in the long run. Jamar not so much. So now he's reinvented himself as a sort of conscience for the music and culture and speaks authoratively as if he was one of the Golden Age's pillars. He can say whatever he wants, it still doesn't negate the fact that he was never quite that popular.

At the same time though I agree with you. Just because he wasn't a mega success, doesn't invalidate his points or arguments. I don't agree with everything he's said, but I don't disagree with all of his positions either. Some of the sh!t he's said was absolutely necessary to hear. Really, nothing he's said is all that damn controversial either, it's just that too many people don't want to talk about those things either out of fear or willful ignorance.

He's only an elder statesman if YOU allow him to be

I don't really have a problem with him assuming that position for himself though. Hip Hop is about expression, speaking on unpopular subjects, building off of one another's views and conversations. While I don't agree with all of his positions, some of which I think are proposterous, at the same time it's kind of refreshing that someone is willing to go there with no fukks given. This current generation of artists and listeners is largely devoid of anyone willing to express themselves honestly for fear of polarizing a potential fanbase. I say potential in light of Lupe and Kendrick capin for Iggy. Rather than cosign the obvious surrounding Azalea's success, they'd rather cosign her in an effort to gain new fans for themselves and avoid any industry hurdles the machine might retaliate with. I could be wrong about their motives, but this generation seems to pride itself on being soft.

Not to sound like an old man, but back in the day, artists like Azalea would have never gotten a pass. Hip Hop was cold back then and in hindsight after looking at what passes for the music today, absolutely necessary. It was almost like the music had an immune system in that the culture would respond to vultures and frauds much like the human body responds to pathogens. That doesn't happen anymore though, and it's sad that the only people willing to take stand and address what shouldn't be controversial subject, are the old heads. That said, I ain't mad at Jamar. May not agree with him all the time, but I ain't mad at him.
