Jamar aint even top 200 rappers lets be real

I wouldn’t include him in a top “rappers” discussion period bcuz he has no solo music or if he does not enough to warrant an honest discussion and for me that goes for a lot of artists who were part of a group (and were not the dominant MC) and have no complete solo projects that we can gauge...truth be told having one isn’t really enough...I think it should be 2-3 minimum...however I’m curious to see where folks who know hip hop beyond their era would rank brand nubian as far as top rap groups are concerned

OP

check yourself, Lord J has TWO classic albums under his belt. And Brand Nubian might be the only hip hop group to release a classic AFTER the best member of the group left.

You might disagree with him, but Brand Nubian is solidified in hip hop history. Never question Jamar's hip hop credentials.
Jae Millz was part of young money. Does that make him a legend?

yall gotta revisit that brand nubian debut (or visit period if you ain't flabby like me). my son absolutely murdered dance to my ministry. which low key is probably a close ass second to step to the rear for best solo on the album

he also murked drop the bomb & of course the hit singles we all know. now as for the sophomore peep his verses on allah u akbar & love me or leave me alone. cooked crack

features is where the god really shined though. he got busy on show business off low end theory but dropped his hest performance ever on diamond d's a day in the life (of 3 black men) off stunts blunts and hip hop. trust me i don't cosign shyt homie says about eminem lmao. a guest in hip hop? lol stop it, shady is hip hop, facts. but divergent views or not jamar was disgustingly nice in his day. his last gasp as a lyricist was the reunion and after that he kinda lost it. hey it happens. but do the knowledge on his greatness as an emcee. nasty pen game
Killed the KMD album too

Lord Jamar doesn't rap about religion. U made that up and just proved u don't know what u talking about and don't know hip hop at all.
for a pretty decent legendary poster you sure can shuffle like ali, and act like a hoe ass nikka :yeshrug: I said what I said, you can deal with it
instead of taking the most minuscule thing about the post and running with it... prove me wrong. Eminem is fairly fukking trash also but saying Lord Jamar is remotely good is a reach.
As dope as Brand Nubian was, you could put anyone from NYC in his spot. Relying on novelty handouts, especially for him is a stretch. There were bytches that would easily bodybag him back then
I get the whole, ride for the culture shyt. But saying Lord Jamar was ever relevant is rewriting history. Martin Lawrence carrying records in house party is more memorable than his career. Nothing is being
taken away from Brand Nubian as a group but propping up Jamar is the most laughable rap opinion ive ever heard. You could get more props and understanding saying Charlie Brown was underrated compared to him
The point I've been trying to prove is, even though the songs posted are classics... he overall is just a dude on the end of the song. Similar to how you listen to D-12 and they just rap after Eminem in whatever order, its no
direct shade at Jamar or D-12 but if they weren't on the songs nobody would even care. Its the same reason why people are posting classic songs and just saying he flows well... anyone could jump on already dope shyt.
Alchemist did it on hold you down, outlawz did it... etc. You can easily say "What outlawz songs did they murk" with this same argument... people might post 1 or 2 verses... but then all they could do is post dope 2pac tracks
where he set the song for them and they just tacked their shyt on. Posting pac songs aint gonna cut it or count towards if the outlawz are dope or not, similar to how you cant post Sadat and Puba crushing songs and then Jamar tacking his verse on the end. Cant give them credit for legendary artists throwing alley oops all day. I respect him as a dude and apart of a groundbreaking group but he is really average to below average at rapping. I could name handfuls of people who shouldn't rap that are better than him. Love watching his interviews but he aint the one if you are looking for a dude to represent your love of the art. He would definitely be the worse choice of all time. Like I said, we can go back and forth all day... I dont mind at all. Not to rep Eminem or corny cac shyt but Jamar just aint it, my dude. Skipping to 5% shyt is corny and a cop out, I'm not even worried about that because you can name 100 other rappers on that tip. I wouldnt put Lord Jamar as the spokesperson for the nation :hhh: Thats shooting off your nose to spite your face shyt.

Above the fray.

what does that even mean?

3 rappers in Brand Nubian first album = classic
2 rappers in Brand Nubian second album= classic

What part of that is hard for you to follow?

I know you guys are unpaid public defenders for white guys using racial slurs on songs, and it hurts your soul for people to criticize your hero, but come on.

I in no way condone those racial slurs. He should have been beaten badly for it

The exaggeration is crazy in the thread, but it's expected.

Jamar was never THE guy in Brand Nubian but he also wasn't a weak link. It's like how Sheek Louch isn't trash, he's just in the same group as Jada and Styles... somebody's gotta be #3 :yeshrug:

But yeah, Jamar def. had some dope verses, namely on Punks Jump Up, To The Right, Slow Down, All For One, Drop the Bomb, Steal Ya Ho...

Funny thing is, dude never claimed to be better than Eminem lyrically or any of that shyt... he just said nikkas don't bump Eminem. I don't know what part of that statement is so atrocious that MFs are insulted by it... I'm lost.

Why not name other rappers who don't get bumped by certain demographics?

Imagine if someone like Gucci Mane went out of his way to say Atlanta don't fukk with Pusha T like that.

Jamar also said Em shouldn't be considered as good as a rapper as everyone considers him to be.

It would take a painfully long time to type out everything Jamar said about Em
