That makes me wonder how the case with Drake and Hugh Heffner turned out over "Best I Ever Had."

It only goes one way once you over a barrel. Getting caught with a uncleared sample is being caught stealing, nobody says well just give me half of my shyt you stole from me, they say give me back all of my shyt and pray I don't take some of your shyt for my troubles.

new york rappers werent always the brightest ones when it came to business

It's that desperation to be famous, get on, and get out of your current situation, plus usually being young. Americans worship two things - celebrity and money - and often celebrity is the more worshipped.

I will say this, for all of the talk about being hustlers, New York rappers never really seemed to be that entrepreneurial. I used to always find it funny about NY rappers complaining about not getting radio play or not being able to get signed, etc., while Southern rappers were just starting their own labels and selling the music out of the trunks of their cars.
damn shame how 'new york' stays on nikkaz minds
inferiority complex is disgusting

that was strategic tho, Just knew Supertramp was gonna want everything. but it got cleared, he can perform it, and it was the single to a plat album

Peter and Tariq cant perform Uptown, that was one of the stipulations of the lawsuit. they basically killed their careers by not clearing that sample

This is the most mindblowing, fukked up aspect of all of this. It's one thing to lose all the publishing on the record, but to not to be able to perform the song at all? Damnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn
They could still be getting little bs show money right today off that song.
