it's pretty clear based on chris rock affirming it when louie says "so i'm a ******, basically'.

and yeah the joke backfired in the long run. another one of those "in the circle" jokes that takes on a different shape when heard by those outside of it. that's why he refuses to do it anymore, as he says at the end of the clip.

No, it's not really clear :aicmon:. He did a horrible job explaining that that was the context if that's truly where he was going. To be honest though Gervais was really the worst thing about the clip.

alright breh, believe what you want. louie ck was in no way referencing an unfortunately iconic joke to the guy that created the joke, it was simply a white man saying ****** to his black friend.

The word ****** is so much bigger than that Chris Rock joke and CK uses it all the time anyway. He didn't talk about "regular black people" (the other half of the joke) he just threw around the word ****** then started engaging in a ******fest with Ricky Gervais with zero references to Rock and his commentary.

It's still not a good excuse. Even if he was referencing Chris, what point was he really making?

i dont know, im not defending him. im just saying it's clear what he was referring to.
i also heard ricky say it once in describing that he won't say it, then when called out, realizes he just said it and laughs at himself for being stupid. not sure where you get "******fest" from

i agree it's grating to hear white people use that word. when it comes to comedy, i've found it's either laugh or walk away. that's hard for a lot of people, myself included.

And he was laughing as if there was any humor in it but it just wasn't. There was no joke there. Seinfeld was looking like :why: and told him he can't find humor in that.

im tellin you breh, comedians circle the wagons and accept anything said by one of their own. it's like a spontaneous union designed to protect free speech instead of labor rights. jerry didnt think it was funny, but he didnt try to stop him, and seemed to find humor in the idea that louie could find something so wrong funny. chris was laughing the whole time, mind you, even making a reference to louie "squeezing all the humor possible" out of the word

why wouldn't they defend it to the death? comedy shouldn't be policed.

So because he tells jokes, we should let him slide? :rudy:

This is no different than the "I was just kidding" plea that a lot of white dudes like to cop and can still talk reckless to you without realizing you're being insulted right in front of your face. This is why so many white dudes walk around these days talking reckless, because people act like they're afraid to check them or they just laugh along with them like dumbasses.

Nah, breh. Not letting this cac off the hook. I don't care what profession you're in, call me a ****** to my face and see what happens. :birdman:

EDIT: That's not to say that there aren't talented white comedians, Bill Burr and George Carlin immediately come to mind. They've spoken on the same issues without coming across like a self-righteous, condescending fakkit. Plus, they're actually funny.

LOOK YOU DUMBASS.

LOUIS CK IS HIGHLIGHTING THE FACT THAT WHITE PEOPLE ENJOY AN ADVANTAGE THAT THEY DO NOT REALIZE AND THAT IN POKING FUN AT IT, HE IS HOPING THAT HIS AUDIENCE TAKES MORE TIME TO REALIZE THAT NOT EVERYONE IS AS LUCKY AS THEY ARE.

THATS WHAT COMEDIANS DO. THATS WHY THEY'RE SO SMART. THEY LOOK AT SOCIETY IN A WAY THAT ALLOWS THEM TO GET TO THE ROOT OF ISSUES WHILE MAKING PEOPLE THINK ABOUT HOW ABSURD REALITY IS.

HAVE YOU EVER CONSIDERED WHEN "WHITE PEOPLE" DIDN'T HAVE AN ADVANTAGE? THATS PRECISELY WHAT LOUIS CK IS POKING FUN AT. DO YOU THINK 90% OF HIS AUDIENCE EVER THOUGHT ABOUT THINGS THAT WAY? I BET THEY DO NOW. THATS THE GOAL.

Okay I rewatched it, he said "you had the bit about..." while pointing to Rock and Seinfeld mentioned the bit and how he retired it. Fair enough. @horse. kills I stand corrected.

I still think he's way too comfortable throwing the word around and should have left that out. There was no intelligent reason to use it there.

The reason to use it there is because that's what the conversation was about. You can censor yourself and say "the n-word" instead but that's almost like a copout to me, especially in a conversation amongst friends and fellow comedians. Which Loius then makes a joke about itself, the fact that Ricky says he would never use it on stage but seems to be okay with saying it in private (which is again facetious. Louis doesn't actually think Gervais goes around saying it in private.)

Actually Louis has a bit about "The N-word" too:

I agree his general sentiment but still acknowledge that in a professional setting you really have no choice.
