Alright a few replies. First
@bigbadbossup2012 is talking a lot of erroneous bullshyt that i'll address here:
This thread is not about pre 00 dmx. With that said, dmx was "hot" before get at me dog because of mixtapes, hype, and cameos, was "on fire" when get at me dog came out, and blew up with ruff ryders anthem.
I was 14-15 in 98 and bought every album of his on the day it was released. I was there. In 98 the only mcs as "hot" as dmx were master p, mystikal, and MAYBE bone thugs but not really. Mase, jay, nas (until i am came out in 99), nore, were all a tier below. And dmx "getting his jaw broke" not only didnt matter, it wasnt even news in 97. It had no impact whatsoever especially considering everything he did was bigger than what he did before from 97 on.
Now, other replies:
It's those Swizz Beatz beats that aged terribly
I somewhat disagree because the swizz beats on the first 3 albums aged fairly well with a few exceptions. His work after that was subpar with dmx to me, and his best work 99 on went to jay-z, ruff ryders compilations, and lox/kiss. He was overextended after 99 imo, and he had to refine his sound which he did.
Get at Me Dog peaked at 39 on Billboard
Ruff Ryders Anthem peaked at 93
Get At Me Dog is DMX's second highest Billboard single of all-time. Nice try though.

got em
The way the thread is title is confusing people to thinking the OP is saying DMX music overall aged bad but he’s just talking post third album.
I suppose it did but idk how i couldve been more clear
This is still 1 of my favorite X songs, and it hasn't age terribly at all
The video version of that is abhorrent, but the album version is alright...the song is offbeat and honestly annoying at this point.
This is how I remember it (I bought all of X's albuns the day they came out):
IDAHIH; Straight up banger, no denying it. Gritty New York rap was back and wiped the floor with that shiny suit shyt.
FOMF, BOMB; Not as good as IDAHIH, but still solid. Crazy he did both within 1 year, he did FOMF for $1 million through Lyor Cohen. Still the only artist to be #1 on Billboard for 2 albums in 1 year, 1st was his debut too. Crazy.
ATTWX; Wack. All the beats sounded the same, no growth in material, beats were some of the worst I've ever heard and considering what he achieved before, it hurt even more. I remember Kurupt dissed him on "Callin Out Names" a few months earlier and everyone was waiting on X's response. I also remember Def Jam released a lot of albums right around Xmas, Meth + Red, X, Jay-Z, Ja, etc so they ALL had massive coverage.
Every X album afterwards had 1-3 good songs but all were generally weak.
Forgot to mention X's mixtape/soundtrack/Ruff Ryder compilation run was unstoppable
Not a bad analysis to me, but i liked attwx when it came out, and dmx replied to kurupt on lose my mind...and killed him basically ending his career or at least credibility
