Dmx made SWIZZ, not the other way around...dmx made swizz, jay, and clue? a lot of money
Exactly bro. I remember the Get At Me Dog single. Cover of the tape was silver with red letters. shyt had the Get At Me Dog freestyle on it as well. Like I said before. Get At Me Dog was out way before the album. Ruff Ryders Anthem dropped like a week before the album dropped. Which is why u prolly remember copping the Get At Me Dog single and then copping the album after Ruff Ryders Anthem.

I already was invested into X by the time Ruff Ryders Anthem released. I’m not saying RR Anthem wasn’t big. I’m saying that shyt didn’t MAKE DMX. Not at all. Remember. Get At Me Dog came out way before the official album released. Ruff Ryders Anthem released as a single like a week before the album dropped bro. Lol
Facts. When 4,3,2,1 dropped I was like “Who is this nikka” then when Money, Power and Respect dropped I was sold. By time Get At Me Dog dropped I was the biggest X nikka in the world.

Back then Canibus, X and Nore had shyt on lock. Then Cam and Punisher were like right there too. As far as the streets

Hey, I tried, bro. More than once but I couldn't lie to myself. I like X's style of rapping but some of those beats weren't hittin'.

The nikka literally said Swizz Beatz MADE DMX. That shyt is a joke. I would expect a nikka that’s 22 years old to say some shyt like that. Not a grown man that was around at the time.

Yeah, thats what I don't get. No one really knew who Swizz was. X had so much presence, you paid attention to the beats but him as an artist, he was a damn stand out. After a while, people figured out who Swizz was.

Let's be real, if Dee and Wah weren't his Uncles, Swizz probably wouldn't have even had much of a career. And I actually like some of Swizz production (He has some classics, undeniable heat) but his sound kinda was very unorthodox for the time, and wasn't that respected. The main reason it got any play is because he had the Lox, X and Jay rapping over his beats. If his family didn't start Ruff Ryders, he would've had to start like any other producer, and I'm not sure who would be picking those beats in 1997 without the connection.

Its true. No way jay would've gotten connected to swizz. Neptunes probably would've had an earlier influence than they did, as they were getting blown up as nore's hits made moves. Duro probably would've been producing for dmx instead of fabolous but thats just speculation.

Its crazy that dmx had 5 straight billboard #1 albums in a 4 year period all at least platinum, and another that reached #2. Insane.

Alright on the topic, i gotta say my favorite x song after 99 is definitely we right here...i liked that shyt. When who we be first came out i liked it...but they added the adlib at the end thru the entire chrous for the video and it killed the song forever for me...and the offbeatness just gets to me...no sunshine was alright but nothing really hit home :manny:

Great conversation brehs

nikka. “Get At Me Dog” was a bigger song than “Ruff Ryders Anthem”. How the fukk wasn’t he THAT nikka till after? U obviously don’t know shyt about DMX fam. shyt. The fact that u also ignoring “Hows It Goin Down”. Which was also bigger than RR Anthem is proof as well.
They got more air play, they weren't bigger. And the YouTube numbers confirm this. I'm wrong? Give me an explanation why rr anthem is so much more popular nearly twenty years later. Was he popping before rr anthem, yes. But rr anthem made him THE MAN

I was invested too, rr anthem solidified his position, without it, he doesn't become the man. He'd go back to being what he was before bad boy helped him. a talented nobody like he was from 91'-97'

of course his uncles helped him, they also helped x and Grease was in these circles. He didn't have the heat so he didn't reach swizz heights

Its ok, bro. Breathe. We can disagree.
I mentioned the payola thing because its true with radio hits in general. Now its hard to tell which hits got what. "Party Up In Here", its possible. That beat wasn't that great; it was upbeat but it sounded cheaply made. "Get It On The Floor" was a better beat and a better hook, still sounded cheap. But yeah, payout for promo for that single had to be there. "You Could Be Blind", not a single, lyrically was dope but that baseline in the beat was cheesy. I can say was I really was into the "Get At Me, Dog" style of production that backed X though. That was his pocket and then he got a lot of joints that were meh.

I just noticed that (a) you are having 2 arguments in this same thread and (b) you get negged a lot.
Maybe I should't continue this convo with you, you seem to really think Swizz and DMX never dropped a bad record. All good.
You shouldn't continue, cause you're wrong. Let's go on the record, you're saying Party up was a forced hit? Lmao nikka please. Forced hits typically have high chart numbers but nothing else to reflect its popularity.
For instance, GET AT ME DOG. High charts, one million views twenty years later. Where rr anthem has 80 mil and party up has 65 Million reflecting sustain popularity. IDAHIH sold 250k then blew to four million meaning it grew. If a nikka was super hot out the gate,he'd sold more out the gate than 250k
