Facts. When 4,3,2,1 dropped I was like “Who is this nikka” then when Money, Power and Respect dropped I was sold. By time Get At Me Dog dropped I was the biggest X nikka in the world.

Back then Canibus, X and Nore had shyt on lock. Then Cam and Punisher were like right there too. As far as the streets
This actually helps MY ARGUMENT,thanks.
Look who you're putting him next to then look how far he was above them after rr anthem blew

They got more air play, they weren't bigger. And the YouTube numbers confirm this. I'm wrong? Give me an explanation why rr anthem is so much more popular nearly twenty years later. Was he popping before rr anthem, yes. But rr anthem made him THE MAN
So dumbass. Why did Hows it Goin Down do WAAY better than RR Anthem? U don’t know what u talkin bout kid. Ruff Ryders Anthem was big but it didn’t make X. He STILL would’ve had Hows It Goin Down without RR Anthem. U gonna sit here and say a song made a nikka when the nikka had bigger songs before AND after said song. No one is denying RR Anthem was a big song. But anyone who was a DMX fan will tell u that DEF ain’t the song that made him. And it damn sure ain’t the best song on the album. It also sounded different than the whole album. That whole album was blasting out speakers in the streets. U making like that song was the only shyt people fukked wit or somethin. U sound like an idiot.

Alright a few replies. First @bigbadbossup2012 is talking a lot of erroneous bullshyt that i'll address here:

This thread is not about pre 00 dmx. With that said, dmx was "hot" before get at me dog because of mixtapes, hype, and cameos, was "on fire" when get at me dog came out, and blew up with ruff ryders anthem. I was 14-15 in 98 and bought every album of his on the day it was released. I was there. In 98 the only mcs as "hot" as dmx were master p, mystikal, and MAYBE bone thugs but not really. Mase, jay, nas (until i am came out in 99), nore, were all a tier below. And dmx "getting his jaw broke" not only didnt matter, it wasnt even news in 97. It had no impact whatsoever especially considering everything he did was bigger than what he did before from 97 on.
My point was here blew up with RR ANTHEM,and u agree.
I WASN'T talking about 98' in general.
I was ONLY speaking on early, pre RR ANTHEM 1998.
At THAT time
Mase
Puffy
Master P
JAY
SILKK
MYSTIKAL
BUSTA
SNOOP
MISSY
etc were bigger than him.

I never said, getting his jaw broke, had impact. Dude said x could walk any hood etc etc and not get touched, but he got touched (I know the story of why etc)

No Father To MY Style.. A Son Unique
Im kinda lost in whos saying what on here but get at me dog put x on the national hip hop scene. The previous verses got him city buzz vut get at me dog was his first song and set the hype off heavy. Ruff ryders anthem established him and blew him sky high. Thats the sng everyone loves and the one that made him who he is as a national artist selling records. Hows it going down took advantage of xs new found popularity with females after two atreet bangers and x officially became the hottest rapper in nyc and the game. That was like a 6-9 month time frame if not mistaken. I remember kids knowing dmx afterthe summer but not before when grt at me dog just came out.

Ruff ryders anthem is what got the attention of the casual heads snd average people.

I love how's it going down, but it's not bigger than rr anthem and the album version is meh, compared to the video. Ask yourself. If all them songs were bigger then, why is RR anthem waaaaaay bigger now? What happened?
THE general public never took to them other songs the way they did RR ANTHEM

You shouldn't continue, cause you're wrong. Let's go on the record, you're saying Party up was a forced hit? Lmao nikka please. Forced hits typically have high chart numbers but nothing else to reflect its popularity.
For instance, GET AT ME DOG. High charts, one million views twenty years later. Where rr anthem has 80 mil and party up has 65 Million reflecting sustain popularity. IDAHIH sold 250k then blew to four million meaning it grew. If a nikka was super hot out the gate,he'd sold more out the gate than 250k
250k out the gate was a great accomplishment for a rapper back then. And by the time the album came out. RR Anthem was ALREADY OUT. If anything u can credit Hows It Goin Down for pushing it over the limit. Get At Me Dog is X’s ONLY certified single off that album.

The nikka literally said Swizz Beatz MADE DMX. That shyt is a joke. I would expect a nikka that’s 22 years old to say some shyt like that. Not a grown man that was around at the time.
X does NOT become a super star without RR ANTHEM. Remove get at me dog and everything stays the same or x does even better. I never liked that song. It was a forced hit.

nikka please rr anthem is x biggest record after x gonna give it to you (which was helped by dead pool, years later)
You're missing the point though.
Naw 250 ain't bad,but if it goes on to sale 4 mil,it's clear he wasn't the man yet,not on the level he would be.
Acting like how's it going down is bigger than RR anthem, shows you weren't really THERE back thEN. You're a Lil boy back then.
SILKK did 300k first week in Feb 1998,let that sink in Lil breh

No. Get At Me Dog is his biggest record sales wise after X Gone Give It To Ya.
