Problem is Michaels wasn't drawing money against Austin like those guys were...Tyson fluffed up Mania 14. Michaels was able to leave like that and not matter because he wasn't a wanted top face by the fans like a Razor, Austin, or Taker were.
hbk's role in mania 14 was still pivotal. no other guy with maybe the exception of taker was in the position to put over austin as the undisputed top guy.

i know austin was on the verge of megastardom with or without shawn but you can't just put anyone in that match and expect the same results either. shawn was still a big time name and imo a worthy champion. beating shawn michaels clean for the belt at mania definitely meant something.

but its not like he doin that all the time, its just a funny gif but everyone wanna quote it like it means something :mjlol: HBK was just swag'd the fukk out back then, being hilarious and towards the end of his run in 96 he was pissing people off, but he was great because of shyt like that, if anyone else was doing it it would look weird, but HBK made it work. Only truly questionable thing HBK did was posing for Playgirl in 96 thinking girls read that shyt :dead: that's just hilarious, I bet Pat told him it would be a good look

That's because Shawn was protected and treated like he mattered even though the business was suffering with him pushed as a top guy. That's why he laid down...in order for the WWE to keep progressing and standing a chance against Nwo, he had to lose and get out of sight. Shawn wasn't no damn worthy champion. He was forfeiting titles and high all the time. He was a joke in 97 and 98. You all should be thanking GOD that Austin got as hot as he did or there would be no damn WWE. Shawn wasn't cutting it.

That's not the worse of it..he tongue kissed Cripple H in the middle of the ring with pride and not an ounce of regret.

lets be reality.

austin was already the top guy.

shawn was the 3rd wheel in that feud behind tyson & austin.

I remember as a young mark seeing WM 12 and I ain't give a sh-t about the warriors return:mjlol:

you shouldve stopped at the bolded.

that comment obviously doesnt concern you. im not talking about young marks. im talking about people with actual income that actually bought the chit.

be smart son.

In his 2 minute match against a relatively obscure Triple H?

i dont know how old some of yall are but i dont think yall realize how huge that was.

they couldve put warrior in there with aldo montoya, and it wouldve got the same results.

Overall he's probably one of my favorite wrestlers. But I didn't care for him in the mid 90s particularly in 95 and 96. The way cokeboy would hype him up :scust:Thinking back on it I always found my myself rooting against him I'm still heated he beat Razor at SS and Bret at WM 12 :pachaha: Plus now that I think about it he should have jobbed to Vader instead of throwing a fit :manny:

At the time I couldn't understand why they turned him face. Obviously a great wrestler, but not a likable character. I dont really remember it, but I guess he was starting to get good reactions from fans which is why they turned him face.

Here's a couple of interesting facts for you. WWF In Your House: Badd Blood (October 97. Steve Austin not on the card. HBK vs Taker the only match of note) sold more PPV's than WWF Over The Edge (May 98. Well into the Austin era.)

Survivor Series 97 (during the nadir of the Monday night Wars for WWF. Built entirely around HBK vs Bret) got more buys than 6 of the 10 PPVs in 1998 in which Shawn Michaels didn't wrestle in the main event.

nah hbk was definitely a worthy champion, at least he was to me. he wasn't as good as austin obviously but i don't think the belt was devalued when it sat around it his waist, especially considering the thin roster WWF had at that time. who else was gonna be champion? who else was gonna put over austin like that at mania? ken shamrock? marc mero? wouldn't you agree that shawn was the biggest guy that he could beat?

i agree that shawn couldn't cut it as top babyface but in 97-98 he proved (to me at least) that he could be the top heel.
