Man I can never say 'I'll Be Missing You' was garbage, it's too engraved in my psyche and my childhood, that song played everywhere! I remember fast forwarding the 2:00 min intro on my boys cd player, his sisters copy of the album, and listening to it that summer, swimming in the backyard at night. As an album it's such a reflection of the time and climate of the game. Like dude above me is saying, I was 12 years old when I first heard this cd, I'l be 29 in 2 days….That's longevity.

I think cash money dropped 3 hot albums in a year. I'm sure big tymers, juvie, BG, & hotboys managed to cook up 3 classics in a row.

Couple years later 2002 into 2003 Shady/Aftermath/GUnit must have rattled off 3 classics in a calendar year beginning with Eminem Show, Get rich or die trying, beg for Mercy.
Rocafella must have did it 2003 into 2004. Black album, college dropout, Memphis bleek/Chris & neef/freeway/pedi crack
And Young Money with Wayne, Drake, Tyga, & Nicki....I'm sure got off 3 classics/big albums in a row. 2009-2010 ish.

Ruff Ryders in 99 was Big, not Bigger than Bad Boy in 97. X was the only one moving "Bad Boy" type of units, Eve wasn't but she did go Plat and Vol 1 did go plat. Cash Money during that era didn't really move MEGA Units outside of Juvi with "400 Degreez" which went 4x Platinum, everyone else was a Gold artist maybe Platinum. Shady/Aftermath/GUnit albums all came out in different years so yes they moved "Bad Boy" Units but not in the same year. You could argue 99 because "Chronic 2001" and "Slim Shady LP' came out in that same year but "Chronic" was later in the year so they didn't Dominate 99. Roc A Fella outside of Jay has never moved "Bad Boy Units", Jay's highest selling album didn't sell more than Biggie's or Puffy's and Ma$e sold just as much as "Hard Knock Life". Young Money again didn't release the same years. 2011 was "Carter IV" and "Take Care" so that was a good year but not bigger than Bad Boy. Let me put this in context for you. Bad Boy had Double Digit Top 10 Hits in 1997 on the Hot 100 (Not just Rap or R&B Charts which they had just as many hits). Biggie went Diamond and Puffy damn near went Diamond. Ma$e sold almost 5 Million himself and had 3 Top 10 Hits too. All three albums came out in 1997, the same year. That's the point I was making about a label dropping 3 BLOCKBUSTER albums in the same year.
I'll agree with you on the bad boy numbers. The impact of the singles and albums sales was crazy.
But fall 2002 fall - 2003 fall is still 365, lol. (I believe Em had the 8 mile soundtrack and Eminem show, 50cent grdot, g unit beg for mercy). That's gotta be some serious numbers beyond the hip-hop and pop culture impact.

This was Mase, Big & Puff. We all know Puff needed help but it was his own show. People dug that because Puffy was on fire in those days

The CMR albums were nowhere near the Bad Boy albums especially Get It How You Live and Guerilla Warfare. Life After Death, No Way Out, and Harlem World had Bad Boy dominating for nearly two years. I think "Can't Nobody Hold Me Down" dropped in late '96 and well into '98, "Lookin At Me" and "Been Around The World" remix were seemingly everywhere.

I would argue however that "Back That Azz Up" & "Bling Bling" have a stronger legacy than practically anything Bad Boy put out in 97 aside from "I'll Be Missing You" if we're being fair
"What's Beef" wasn't even a single and it's as impactful if not more impactful. There's a host of singles and album cuts with legacies as strong if not stronger than the CMR songs. That's not even mentioning how LL, Jay Z, Busta Rhymes, Mariah, and Brian McKnight all had the Bad Boy influence on their '97 releases.
