Luda was the Ja Rule of the south. Nothing exceptional about him, went back to the well plenty of times yet made many a pop hit

dude has been consistent and was undeniable in the beginning
he carved his own lane completely with busta rhymes like videos
stupid punchlines that were half serious like eminem
and bravado of a redman
all while keeping it southern and covering all song styles
his diss songs were potent and his fukking delivery and clarity on a mic is fukking ridiculous
his voice commands attention

This is where history gets changed.
Ludacris was unique, something different in an era when hip hop started to appear (not sound, that was a bit after) the same. His music was fun, he could rap his ass off and his style was his. I've heard a few Snoop Dogg, DJ Premier and people like such who have been in the game for a long time, they have said they fell in love with hip hop at a time when everyone was different - Ludacris gets nothing but credit for being who he was, and providing an alternative. Kanye gets credit for providing an alternative, as he should, but the impact of his alternative you could argue negatively impacted hip hop to a lot of people today. Ludacris' alternative didn't really affect anyone positively or negatively, you might say that should count against him, not really, you don't always have to be influential, he was just him.
Also, Growing Pains and Hopeless are for me in probably in the top 20 tracks of the 2000s for me.
