Trade is still nuts to me…I’m probably one of the biggest AD fans there are…I 100% think he was AT WORST the full equal partner 1a/1b star of the 2020 championship team (and in all reality, if absolutely forced to pick, the lakers best player that year)…and for a variety of reasons (namely the narrative that diminishes any star that plays with Bron and the disregard for the importance of defense) he’s probably one of the more under appreciated players of this generation…

all the platitudes from the Mavs GM about why they wanted AD and how defense wins championships all makes perfect sense …he’s the perfect player for them to acquire as a final win-now championship piece…..TO PAIR WITH LUKA …swapping them out for each other instead of doing whatever possible to get them on the same team is just nonsensical and ruins pretty much the entire value proposition around trading for AD for basketball reasons…he’s 6 years older with his own durability issues ….even if they have deep seated reservations about Luka long term based on inside information over the years, his perceived value to the rest of the league should’ve netted the biggest return haul maybe ever ..AD plus a mother lode of picks at the very least

Rob knew he had the advantage because Nico/Dallas were doing Luka a favour by picking a favourable destination for him. Being an agent as Rob once was you always trying to talk the candidate/client down to more favourable terms.
