Scal was not 2nd in command for Mark Jackson. And Walton didn't walk into being 2nd in command, he was promoted there because Alvin Gentry left for the Pelicans. If Gentry doesn't leave, Walton would not be interim coach.

Probably. But that wouldn't be fair considering how little success the NBA greats have had at the coaching ranks. The good coaches were usually talentless scrubs like Fisher, but he has flipped the script and is somehow even worse as a coach than he was as a player.If I said Kidd though, I was expecting to get posts like:
"but he was a HOF'er, Luke was a bum"

If you guys want to take issue with a black assistant coach not getting a head gig after putting in work, imo it should be about Patrick Ewing. That dude has been an assistant for like ten years. Don't puff your chest out just because Luke Walton fell into a meaningless title after Alvin Gentry left.

All you gotta do is look at the facts.
Luke Walton joined a 1st year HC's staff. The Associate HC on that staff got a HC gig after 1 year. Luke moves up.
Tyronn Lue joined Doc Rivers staff in Boston. Sticks with Doc for 5 years behind guys who Doc had on his coaching staff for years.
And even still Tyronn Lue is better off right now than Walton. Again, you picked a terrible comparison.
