I hear you...sounds like a personal preference choice for you, which is cool. Nas is my favorite rapper...but I always said Lupe, imo, is the greatest rapper/lyricist ever, speaking strictly on some skill shyt. The lyrics, the assortment of flows, the wordplay, the story telling, etc... It's like he's a 9 or 10 in madd different categories...alien shyt.As a lyricist, he's very elite.
However, as a well rounded emcee and in terms of catalog, I have quite a few rappers ranked above him.
I wouldn't rank Lupe above Ghostface for example even though he's technically a better lyricist than him.
I remember, back in high school, I found a rap forum that broke down all the entendres on "Paris Tokyo" and I was amazed even back then on how many Lupe had in a commercial sounding song like that.Best lyricist from a literary sense (with some measure of commercial success being a qualifier) of all time…pretty comfortably too…he writes rhymes like an English lit doctorate student
Damn, I need to see that post. That's one of my favorite rap songs ever and I don't think I caught any of them.I remember, back in high school, I found a rap forum that broke down all the entendres on "Paris Tokyo" and I was amazed even back then on how many Lupe had in a commercial sounding song like that.
