he’s probably got more money than 99% of coli members, but he’s also been around really rich people. so he doesn’t think he’s rich.

plus as others have pointed out, his music has not been mainstream in a decade.

If you can live comfortably off rap (or any genre of music)....you won at life. Most people don't work jobs they like and then on top of that a lot don't even make enough money to live as nicely as they'd like to.

EDIT:

When I say "live comfortably off rap" I mean anything from De La Soul still touring, 30+ years after their debut, to people like Nas using his rap career money to invest in other ventures. If you can do any of that and exist outside of the 9-5 rat race....you won.

He is not rich by celebrity standards but I'm sure he had a few million.

He's speaking relatively. Lupe is rich but he hasn't made as much money as a rapper with his level of acclaim should have but on the flip side of that I'll bet he's probably not in debt or anything like that either.

:wow:Just like the almighty Jadakiss said:

A lot of nikkas is thousandnaires, walking round town, fronting like they got mills
For what it's worth, I'm one myself, but my strength in the hood outruns my wealth

Rappers got money but they don't GOT money.

Perception of money all depends on who you have access to.

If you grew up in a low income neighborhood and that's all you're around, the guy with a 75K+ salary "has money"

If you're around an industry that has high paying jobs like IT field for example, people who are making 250K+ "have money"

If you're around entertainers/celebrities then "Oh, they make 5-10 million a year? They have money"

If you're around high level corporate executives and CEOs, then it's "He nets half a billion a year, he has money"

It's all about what you're around and what you have been exposed to, that determines your perception of who has money.

why would he keep 5mil in the bank?

he would be losing money doing that.

Thats not how regular ballin people do...
...you would have to be on some Jay Z/Nas shyt in order to have 5m+ in the tuck for no reason
Not sure if that's what you're implying and i could be wrong but I would think 5 million in moderate stocks would be considered liquid also? Since you can withdraw anytime

Even before that, most musicians regardless of genre were not "rich"

Pre internet music industry was just as horrible to artists. Still getting paid pennies per album.
