deep down nikkas know that kendrick never showed that he had any dope metaphors, punchlines, or entendres in his arsenal. that's why they can never quote a bar from the nikka it always ends up with them typing out his entire verse, the bars by themselves are light

he's still nice tho cuz his flow, aggression, and storytelling skills are so good that it covers that up, but it also causes his tracks not to have much replay value after 2-3 spins

meanwhile you can play a lu track you heard a year ago and you'll catch somethin new that went over your head :ohlawd:

bar for bar kendrick would be food no questions asked
I agree, thats why K dot is now known as Top Ramen. I listened to GKMC and it was cool, I didnt dislike it at all, but i just didnt feel the need to listen to it again.

I actually think those qualities give him a lot of replay value.
it should be(cuz 3 stacks is the same but i can replay his shyt all day) but the way kendrick approaches story telling is waaay too direct for my taste, he doesn't leave much to interpret so after i heard it once or twice i feel like i know it and there's no need for me to go back and listen, he doesn't have layers to his lyrics

it's like reading the same book multiple times i just can't do it unless there's something new for me to pick up :manny:

The dude is a lyrical monster...but his lyrical exercise songs have become so convoluted. shyt, his music in general has. That Hitchcock, hitch hike, "hand"gun scheme was dope as fukk but he can't help but keep stretching the shyt out to the point it's a chore to follow along instead of being enjoyable. Lupe's music used to be like reading poetry. Now it's like doing a crossword puzzle.

Lupe The Killer, Mean & Vicious, Failure, Theme Music to a Driveby...his "show off how ill I am lyrically" tracks used to be so dope. You'd break his shyt down because you enjoyed the song in the first place. You caught the surface wordplay and some of the deeper stuff, and would be discovering new shyt on your 100th play. But only reason there was a 100th play is because of how dope an overall track it was. Lyrically, technically, thematically, musically. His music gets the few replays it does now because I know he's lyrical and want to see if I missed anything. SL3 got played once all the way through. Replays were just parts of the song I wanted to decipher further. After a while I really don't give a fukk about what Lupe is trying to mean by saying "back" and "front" for the 20th time in a row. Cool Lupe, you're using "pier" and other versions of it for half a verse. This nikka made a song about a damn cheeseburger kingpin that was entertaining as hell. With all that creativity you instead choose the bland route of exhausting every possible way you can flip a couple words?:what: I know that I need to go back to decipher part of a Lupe verse whenever I start thinking "this nikka's rambling again"

I took an excerpt of SLR 3 and took an excerpt a third of the size from Failure. Be honest, now. The excerpt from Failure, despite being a third the size, is much stronger and says so much more than the excerpt from SLR3. This is what I've been trying to verbalize for so long about this nikka Lupe's music nowadays. He used to make this shyt look effortless. That Usual Suspects line is more impressive to me than anything off of SLR3, yet SLR3 comes off like a dude trying his hardest to be as complex as possible. He used to extend references and metaphors expertly and never too far. I listen to dude's music nowadays and ask myself "Is he even having fun anymore?:why:"

I'll ask some of y'all this simple question: do any of you see yourselves reciting any of these SLR tracks word for word a year from now? I can recite Failure or Lupe the Killer in my sleep. Y'all are trying to make this a Lupe vs Kendrick thing, but it isn't. It's Lupe vs. Lupe. He felt the need to do this because he sees someone getting the love he used to get. The thing is, he's not getting that love because of what he's doing not because of what Kendrick is doing. If you think Lupe would murder Kendrick in a battle, cool. But would Lupe now murder Lupe from back then in a battle?:ohhh:

I know what I'm saying is 1. unpopular and 2. Long as fukk, so whatever "Didn't read" gifs I get are cool:pachaha:

Why do you have to listen to a track and pick up something new for it to have replay value? I dont understand that at all. So because i know the lyrics to Ready To Die like the back of my hand I no longer should listen to the album?

I think Lu just got to the point where he can write lyrics in his sleep...it's just so effortless for the nikka that I think he has to complicate it just to challenge himself a lil bit..lol..as long as he rappin and not trollin and sayin dumb shyt on Twitter(trolling)...I'm good..

you simplifying it by saying im just talkin about lyrics period and that's not the case

i was talking about kendricks story telling because his album was basically one big story. my point was that the way he told the story didn't make you have to think about anything at all, it was pretty direct and to the point. there's no problem with that because he did it well but i never had the urge to listen to it a lot for 2 reasons:

1. i got a pretty vivid image of the story(again based on how he told it and he gets props for that :salute:) so i dont have to listen to the music to remember how it goes
2. like i said earlier the nikka doesn't really have any punchlines, metaphors, or entendres that are gonna make me rewind anything he says, once i get the story he's telling that's basically it

it's like buying a dvd and the shyt doesn't come with any bonus footage, yea if you like the movie enough you gon watch it 2,3, maybe 4 times, but after that it's goin on the shelf for a while, you already know what it's about, there's no underlying theme to interpret, you aint watching it again.

Kendrick is "The Dark Knight" to Lupe's "Inception" both were dope, but im goin back to inception a few times to make sure i caught everything :leostare:

he's dope, but unless he gives me a real reason to replay his shyt i wont do it.

but that's just me :manny:

Music is different from movies though. Ive heard various Michael Jackson songs hundreds of times but I still listen because i love the songs. If you dont like the songs then thats cool. But to say they arent worth listening to again because you arent discovering new things doesn't register with me.

I like both "Failure" and "SLR 3" TBH I probably like SLR 3 better, and "Failure" is my shyt... neither is an album cut tho. Theyre different kinds of tracks though... Failure is this nikka simply describing himself, kinda like a swag rap... on steroids. The SLR series is him describing himself in comparison to other "rappers" or Top Ramen. The lyrical dexterity is :whew:. The way Lu gives you some shyt, goes another direction, then comes back to it intermingling the different rhymes is heavenly. He packs it in there... On Failure he had one segment where he did it... Where he's rappin then goes, "There's snakes in the hood/gotta watch for that cobra bite" he had left that rhyme pattern earlier then brings it back, its a thing of beauty. nikkaz aint catching all the intricacies in a Lupe verse. Its more than just the lyrics, its the flow and patterns. He's just better and I appreciate that shyt.

But thats not all Lu gives you. Back when Failure dropped this was damn near my favorite track on the mixtape

and nikkaz act like the shyt he was doin on F&L II was new... he came into the game with it. So nikkaz talkin bout he "lost it" are confused as fukk

thank you based Meinfuhrer Lu :blessed:
