Heed Breed.
if you really want to keep it 100...it is overly wordy just for the sake of being overly wordy.....Elitists gravitate towards Lupe's music..... He is pretentious..... and it's a near 9 minute song.

You think with those facts, that you won't find people pointing out the obvious?

In the Silver Lining
Even though its not on T & Y, I played "Mazinger" for an Asian woman and she loved it. I think the singing helped though

He rapping for the fans that want to hear him at his most potent lyrically. Hold nothing back lyrically or production wise. From that point of view he aced it with this album :yeshrug:

"Deliver" is radio friendly, but apparently to "smart" for radio listeners. Isn't that what BET told Little Brother :scust:

The King of Not Dumbing it Down :blessed:

With all that said, this type of Lupe, just introduction with braggadacio is still his best era. Classic mixtapes popping out.

We never did get that Child Rebel Soldier (Ye, Skateboard P, and Lupe) album .. :scust:

Its probably to late, it wouldn't even work probably. :to:

Center self, inner self
This is similar to that video, in a sense.
Haters avoiding this thread like the plague.

Coli got some spiteful ass dudes in The Booth. shyt is disgusting. Had dudes in other threads saying this song was overrated
:dead:
Who are you talking to? :leostare:

This is great. A lot of the song went over my head the first few listens.
And this is the point I was making in my thread about being too cryptic
Yeah, I really never knew he was this hated til this album dropped.

I looked at the list of dudes who 1 starred the Official T&Y thread and none of them even had a post in the thread. Just blindly hating on this man :dead:

People were bytching about dude being cryptic and rapping just to rap, well this video gives you a peak into how he pieced these bars together. How can anybody watch that and not be even a little impressed is beyond me.
Oh so you are talking about me :leon: It is very cryptic. Never said it wasn't a good album, though.

I wouldn't say he's pretentious, but he damn sure is condescending.

Does this album sound like anything from the golden age? Whatever golden age you subscribe to?

No. People were bumping Pac, Wu, Nas, Jay, BONE, Outkast, or let's go farther back....Rakim, LL, Slick Rick, PE, etc.

Do any of the great albums of the last 30 years sound like this? Does "Death Certificate"? Does "Illmatic"? Does "Fear Of A Black Planet"?

So what era would you place this album in....that it would have people :ohhh:over the lyrics? The sole reason it's a topic of discussion in 2015 is because of message boards and Youtube.

It's funny you mention Ras Kass when he was never remotely popular, either....and that's fine....but you guys are taking an album....and sitting there confused why more people don't appreciate it....when in any other era it would be an anomaly with only a handful of fans. It's like going into a film forum and spazzing because nobody is discussing "Enter The Void" by Gaspar Noe.

Are you talking in terms of lyricism? Soul on Ice and Resurrection are just as lyrical, without being overly cryptic.

Mural is fire. the Video is aight but they got a lot of shyt wrong. At least the way I interpret some things

"Lupe look at all these tucaaaans (cacs) (long noses)
In a cemetary full of tomahawks (native americans)
Giving middle fingers to the pidgeons (blacks) doing summersaults"

pidgeons are known to stay around/loyal after you've had them caged for some time. summersaults relating to entertaining whites, brehs being exploited for monetary gain

Also this line blew me away

"A thousand parts a pound of heart an ounce of eyes announcin now the doubt in mouth pronounces out a count of lies"

Neither were particularly popular either....and again, this isn't a popularity contest....but no fans of those albums were trying to beat people over the head with how great they are. They had their small fan base, the rest of the world was listening to BONE, Pac, BIG, Wu, Nas, Jay, or whatever....and all was well with the world. But it's 2015, and everyone has access to a computer, so they need to tell you how you don't "get" his lyrics, or you aren't smart enough, or all kinds of other weird shyt....and generally try to make him and his album more important than they actually are.

I said in another thread I feel the same way about Lupe's lyrical skills as I do about Eminem's technical skills. It's impressive but I don't feel anything at all when I listen to it. It's like watching "Jeopardy" with a really good contestant.

This album is for a specific set of people: Those who stress lyrics to the bone.

Ive always appreciated lyrics but not everybody is like me so when this went into it deeply its understandable why most wont feel it.

Everybody who is deep into lyrics love it and the rest gets left by the wayside.

Its cool that he made this album but i prefer if he didnt went this extreme all of the time so he could reach more people.

Its one thing to go against dumbing it down but this guy raised it up to the extreme lol.

Also, this. I like his shyt like "Gotta Eat" and "Failure". It's clever, but it doesn't sound forced.

This album mostly sounds like someone reading Wikipedia entries over beats.
