Lupe's catalog is probably not even top 20 since 1995... :francis:
Lupe's lyrical style is pretty much a mix of Nas (Imagery + Concepts) and Reasonable Doubt Jay-Z (Metaphors & Wordplay).
Without the flow, voice, quotables, charisma, beat selection that made those guys true G.O.A.T.'s...

I had a whole write up on :hamster: about him being the hybrid between the two which is why as much as I love Lupe, if being 'origonal' is the criteria for that top whatever list, he's also a bit more derivative than somebody like Doom.

Lupe has had better flow, beat selection, and music than both of them for the past 10 years though.

Or do we gotta point out how spotty both Nas and Jigga music has been post-2005?

Of course he's missing the highs they had back in the day (Illmatic, IWW, RD), aside from Nas last album those nikkas are living off of legacy. Jay in particular.

Now that's something no one wants to talk about. I can think of a few more people that should be mentioned

He's missing the highs because of nostalgia and reputation alone. I'll put T&Y and TC against either of their best stuff.

And song for song career wise I would definitely put Lupe against any of their best stuff.

Bar for bar lyric for lyric I'm putting Lupe above both of their stuff.

Bruh, I was going back through Jay's shyt :patrice:... this nikka has been consistently on and off quality-wise with his albums since 2001...

The Blueprint is classic
BP2 had some dope shyt on there but is all around a mess
Black Album is hot
Kingdom Come is hot garbage
American Gangster is hot
BP3 is not
MCHG is hot garbage

He kinda broke the pattern there with Magna Carter, and dropped back to back duds...

Not to mention Lupe ate this nikka alive on his debut album :jawalrus:

Meanwhile Lupe has 3 GREAT, 1 decent and 1 mediocre album to his name :lupe:

Not to mention an unbelievable catalog of mixtapes :lupe:

Which is why I say people can't compare rappers from different generations like you can dudes from the same era.

I have Nas top 3 albums ahead of Lupe's top 3 but that's no knock on him cuz Nas is #1 to me. But because of the era Jay and Nas come from they have certain intangible factors that weigh over Lupe. They're impact and influence on the genre are on another level despite Lupe sitting in my personal top 3.

For those 2 (Pac, Biggie too) it's bigger than music. But those 2 are anomalies, most rappers from the 90's can't even compare to that.

NY all day..Da Stead & BK..
Respect his opinion but he dead wrong on the J Cole Nas/Game comparison .

J Cole is HEAVILY influenced by Kanye. Especially late registration Kanye, specifically ye's more lyrical side and his singing.

Even his production sensibilities are very Ye influced just stripped down. It's even more evident on the mixtape ye dropped before the more polished LR dropped

Here's some references

This song was made by somebody who is definitely influenced by Kanye

J Cole has damn near zero Nas to me. His most obvious influences that translate to his music are Pac and Ye.
