The "problem" or "issue" rap/hip hop purist have with Macklemore is the same issues rap purist have with Flo_rida, Pitbull, Niki Minaj artist like that. Even tho those artists sell a lot, the music comes off as extremely gemreic, microwavable and contructed for pop chart consumption.

And true rap fans (black, white, asian, latin etc) don't respect the type of music that those artist make. I highly doubt that any more than 10 people in The Booth would go to a Macklemore concert or would buy is album.

Yeah dude is movin units and more power to him. But to the greater hip hop community. We don't fucc with his music, especially when it seems that "the machines" are forcing his music down our throats (No Collins)

"the greater hip hop community"....who the fvck are yall exactly?

yall placing some importance among yourselves like you're special. you're not.

"I highly doubt that any more than 10 people in The Booth would go to a Macklemore concert or would buy is album."

okay, for every 10 of yall not in booth not going, its still people going, so what exactly is this suppose to mean?

Even tho those artists sell a lot, the music comes off as extremely gemreic, microwavable and contructed for pop chart consumption.

okay, dont like it dont listen to it. its so freaking simple, but yall continue to disregard this action. yall say yall dont listen to radio, yall have your ipod where you can put your own music, you have cds you can make of any song. you have the internet where almost any song is accessible, but yall front over this 1 dude who yall say you never hear anybody else bumping.

There are several others who speak on different topics that
are known within the Hip Hop community black rappers who
aren't gangster rappers isn't a rarity.

YOU not knowing about these artists is indicative
of YOUR OWNignorance.
How would I be "proving your point" when in your
original post you went out of your way to imply that
Macklemore is "unique" ?

C'mon son.

:dead:
I don't care if you're white or black.
Your post was ignorant and it spoke volumes about what you
think of Hip Hop.

It basically implied that Macklemore ,a white rapper,
whose garnered a lot of attention lately is
different from his black counterparts who apparently
lack substance and only rap about "buying out the bar".
Which has allowed him to fill some previously unoccupied lane.

Like Kanye West hasn't been around for the last 8-9 years.
Like Lupe Fiasco didn't debut in 2006.
Like Kendrick Lamar, J. Cole and even Drake do not exist.

Do you have a reading comprehension problem?

I said funny, self-depricating and not reliant on swag. Are you unable to grasp the words "funny" and "self-depricating"? Or are you simply hung up on the word swag? I didn't say a word about substance. What do Drake, Kendrick & Cole have to do with it? I don't recall any funny songs from them. You're reading what you want to into it and leaving out what you choose to leave out.

next time someone tells you there is no benefit to being white in rap. just laugh. beastie boys going diamond when everyone else was tryna be platinum or gold. eminem selling 100 million albums worldwide. now these new jack have 2 number ones outta nowhere. fact is, if you white, and make half decent music, its a win.

then again anybody trying to drill the fact as if you split the atom is a retard as well. A white artist selling millions of records in a majority white country? It cannot be!:mindblown:

Gotta love the race-baiting here. You know why the dude blew up? He made a funny, self-deprecating rap song that was different and didn't rely on swag. You know, like they used to do in the old days. Remember the old days? When everything wasn't about buying out the bar?

So when you said this you weren't talking about the
"other" rappers in mass ?
IS that what you're saying ?

Because I definitely took that comment another way.
I never once mentioned your use of the word swag, it's the "Buy out
the bar" comment that was funny style. Though the use of "swag"
definitely adds to what you seemed to be implying in that post.

And I'd argue that Macklemore didn't blow because of THAT song
in particular, beforehand he was getting hundreds of thousands to millions of views on youtube even selling over 50,000 records
"independent" before his song blew up.

With that said we all know of what goes along with "Buying out the bar".
It's a Hip Hop Club Song cliche, which is why I brought up
Kendrick and J. Cole, they tend to avoid mainstream cliches
and have had much success doing so.
The same applies to B.o.B., Lupe Fiasco, Kanye West and to a lesser extent Drake/Wale.

That's why I found your comment odd because it was as if
you completely dismissed the "other" acts.
This is the same argument that people use when they
say they don't mess with "other" rappers unsurprisingly a lot
of those same people wouldn't have an issue copping some Atmosphere,
Sage Francis and Macklemore records......

He's solid but the problem is no one would buy this shyt if he was Black which is the issue. His market is Flo rida, pitbull and those types of rappers.

Mc Hammer sold more than vanilla ice, made more dough, was a bigger star. I just wanted to bring that up, cause people try to erase Hammer from hiphop history unfairly imo

Mc Hammer was an entertainer more than a rapper. Like grown Michael Jackson is more of an entertainer than a singer but he's elite at both while Hammer... he was fun to dance to :stylin:

He's from my city and I agree. My boy who is white from here raps better than him.

Yeah, Seattle is mainly full of fakkits though so let's just leave the rapping to anything from Oregon and so on.
