My question is. If white people are buying this type of shyt. What does that mean for us blacks? Is it that nobody buying our shyt anymore?

Black ppl need to start putting money in our culture again before we lose our buying power :lupe:

How this random white guy push more records indie than Rick Ross :mindblown:

Man, it's done. A lot of people make jokes and say folks are complaining, but if you don't think history is being rewritten you're a clown. Rap is honestly on its way downward both commercially and underground.

I honestly never thought this would happen 10 years ago, but the same shyt that happened to other forms of black music is happening now. I told folks that keep arguing about "who's the goat" are all lost. It's all ready written in media history that Eminem is the greatest of all time. Then the few media outlets that rap does have doesn't help.

Exactly, the genre is so dominated by blacks that it is not even funny. Its like country, they have a Darius Rucker who is very successful but he is very much in the minority in that genre and will not top the biggest white country singers of all time.

Mackelmore will never reach a worldwide appeal of a Jay-z or Tupac.

maybe not, but Em is the highest selling rapper of all time, and elvis is the highest selling artist.

both utilizing black created music (hate the term black music).

Darius Rucker will not be the highest paying country artist. point blank.

the only instance I can think of where a black man (and technically he's mixed) went into a white created form of art and became the highest paid....is Tiger Woods. and that's probably because no middle man (media, studio execs, etc) could interfere. he went out there, smashed on everybody and they just had to accept it.

whereas with music, they can push mackelmore by playing him on more stations...having him tour australia and europe.

i think artists should tour africa and south america or some shyt. this aint the 90s, they do go online now, use itunes, put money up for shows. might sound silly but im serious. :manny: there are other markets besides 'the hood'. make a song with balie funk elements and tap into the northeast brazilian market, make a song with kwaito elements and market to south africa town ships. put some caribbean elements in your song and etc etc. better hurry up, diplo is already doing it.

also...artists need to learn how to evolve.

talkin about trap and hoes..

in macklemores defense, he's doing something new. Em did as well.

we have a fukked up mentality in the black community that when you break out of the mold youre weird or a fakkit. danny brown, lil b, odd future. whereas everyone else see it as something fresh. nikkas need to open their minds and evolve.

encourage artists to be innovative like outkast or kanye, not a same-o-gimmick. you'll end up only selling 50k like Keef (I listen to keef btw).

Lol. It's far from doomsday. It's not that serious for me. I enjoy all types of music.

My main point was that I could never see something like this happening with hip hop. Also, I just think it's funny how hip hop has turned into some sort of parody genre.

Rock & Roll all over again?

Also, although Em is talented, there is no way people weren't buying everything he put out just because he was white.

I remember seeing middle-aged white guys wearing shady tees :patrice:

breh I'm sooooo tired of these cacs, & I ain't talking bout the artist.

I'm talking about the cacs that support them but won't put that money toward black artist when the music is just as good or better.

Sick of this man. :birdman:

:heh: you guys are idiots. If anything white people are running POP RAP, not HIP HOP. These are two completely seperate genres these days.

like the cacs know the difference or if they even care. They will call this Hip Hop...and just over run the real definition of what Hip Hop is...they've done this with all of our music :snoop:

I've been performing &/or singing music since I was 5, currently working on an album. Just left the studio with one of my friends while he worked on his album. And this very same subject we discussed before he went in the booth to spit. My Dad & Mom made an entire album with live instruments. Me and all of my siblings can play some type of instrument. :heh:

Music put me through college, my mom & dad as well :russ:

I'm not one of these dudes who just listen to music because of the beat. I actually study it, break it down, the inflections, attacks, releases & phrasing of sounds...

Don't confuse me with these random cats on here. Some of us really know this stuff :stopitslime:

The "problem" or "issue" rap/hip hop purist have with Macklemore is the same issues rap purist have with Flo_rida, Pitbull, Niki Minaj artist like that. Even tho those artists sell a lot, the music comes off as extremely generic, microwavable and contructed for pop chart consumption.

And true rap fans (black, white, asian, latin etc) don't respect the type of music that those artist make. I highly doubt that any more than 10 people in The Booth would go to a Macklemore concert or would buy is album.

Yeah dude is movin units and more power to him. But to the greater hip hop community. We don't fucc with his music, especially when it seems that "the machines" are forcing his music down our throats (No Collins)

Em came out dissing pop stars, himself and being silly, during a time gangster rap was at a high.
