word, mad skillz came into that interview with notes on what to say when the conversation goes dead or goes off the rails when that alcohol hits. dude even rehearsed the Drink Champs intro down to a tee, said he wanted to start 'link champs', and talked ideas like that

"modern rap" is must that: hiphop as a movement was exported to the south and didn't didn't spring directly from its Southern roots like, let's say Dc GoGO did (black church, funk, jazz)

Bmore has always been southern black culture historically for ADOS population

Take for example: Eubie Blake who was born in Baltimore in the early 1880s

Out of his own mouth:

Eubie Blake - Biography - IMDb

to be fair, most southern regions didn't have a distinct sound or scene outside of LA, Florida, Memphis and Texas until the late 90s/early 2000s in part because these regions have older musical genres and didn't care too much about hiphop.
NAHHHH

They were very NEW YORK influenced.
If you listen to DC music from around the same era, it is NOT.
Midwestern/Southern/West Coast influence....Southern delivery, FUNK BASED PRODUCTION...minimal usage of samples and breakbeats.
They had a distinct "southern" tinge to their music that Bmore and DC didn't have.
Bmore also had that DVD/Mixtape culture....a thing that didn't hit the south until 2005/2006 tbh. They had DVDs but not this style of DVD or application.
<<<< DVD Culture.
Usage of the word Yo.
They're wearing MITCHELL AND NESS, SOLBIATO, and other northern/mid atlantic gear staples.
Nobody's outside in slides, either.

Gotta finish this. I like Skillz but every time I think of him I remember this Clark Kent interview of Big mentioning him :mjlol:

Time stamped

"Jay-Z obliterated shyt"
Against an ACTUAL battle rapper during the freestyle era-with his "reasonable doubt era" material?
:duck:
sounds like a new york fairy tale.

I think its crazy how he went from overrated to underrated over these past 25 or so years. With that said always thought he was a very good lyricist.

Wow, I think this is the literally the 1st time I've ever heard someone even mention that Danja Mowf album, on the internet or in real life. I used to like that album a lot, but it's been so long I can't even really remember what it sounds like. I need hunt that down and revisit it.

Word Of Mowf is flames

I trying to find the physical still

Dude has made a lot of enjoyable music, even in recent years. I hadn’t listened to him in years for a period and that “So Far So Good” song and “Don’t Act Like You Don’t Know” got me back into listening to him.

:mjlol: Fu Schniken era jay that got washed on the freestyle WITH Big L would get WASHED by somebody who was a "non hustler/all punchline" version of him.
