Montana low-key benefitted more from coaching and team than anyone. He was fantastic under pressure and had an accurate arm, but his college #'s were unimpressive and his combine performance was mediocre enough that he didn't get drafted until the end of the third round. When Bill Walsh instituted the West Coast system, it fukked with NFL defenses for years and was a perfect fit for Montana's skills. Put Montana in some other system and Super Bowls wouldn't have been a given. Add in that he benefitted from some of the best receiving corps in NFL history, legendary linemen, HOF running backs, and an often elite defense (gave up just 63 points combined in his 4 Super Bowls), and you could say that in many ways Montana benefitted from circumstances even more than Brady.
