Let's remember that Mahomes faced a significant setback on the grandest stage against the Bucs and the legendary Brady brehs.
The narrative surrounding greatness can easily shift with factors like a challenging Super Bowl, injuries, distractions, and more. Rodgers is a great example. Pretty much half the coli brehs proclaimed Godgers is the new GOAT. Look what happened to him.
While we appreciate Mahomes' brilliance, let's avoid getting caught up in the media-driven hype of a new GOAT. Yes, what he has accomplished is nothing short of greatness. However, he hasn't even surpassed Montana yet.
I have a lot of respect for Mahomes; he's incredibly likable, and I've always admired Andy Reid. However, I dislike it when people disrespect Brady. It's reminiscent of how some Bron stans started disrespecting Jordan when LeBron won his second championship. It feels premature, and I had similar reservations back then.
If Mahomes continues to be great for another decade + then we can start having the conversation. AND NO YOUR EYE TEST DON'T COUNT. If you go by the eye test, Justin Herbert, Josh Allen, Rodgers, etc, etc. can seem to be greater than Brady. Brady makes easy throws, take sacks, and doesn't try to thread the needle. Casuals see a guy who is protected by a great oline. They see wide open WRs. they see great playcalling. What they don't see is how Brady manipulates D with his eyes. How Brady changes protection. How he makes oline better by getting rid of the football quick. They don't see the fire that inspires other grown ass men around him.
Nice breakdown by Orlovsky. Casuals can't see this. Brady beat you before the snap.
This is one of the reason why I hate nikkas disrespecting Manning. Manning was also a master at breaking down the D before the snap. Manning's downfall is that he controlled too much of the offense which was too finesse. the timing gets off in cold january when the stakes are highest. it doesn't mean manning isn't great.
I love this segment. You can't beat brady with a pure athleticism.
nice breakdown
Just how brady make things look. I saw Josh Allen trying to thread a needle against similar cover 2 when he didn't have to.
another nice breakdown. Brady knows PRESNAP.
If you don't play the chess, then it's almost guaranteed you lose. Look at how he exploits man to man D.
Casuals can't see this. It's just another pitch and catch to them.
Mahomes's consistent success is a testament to his greatness. Often time his brilliance is post snap with his football instincts. However he's still a student of a game compared to Brady's mastery of NFL defense.
if we consider hypothetical matchups between Mahomes/Reid Chiefs and the Brady/Belichick Patriots year after year, my bet would be on Brady/Belichick overcoming that challenge. It's essential to remember that Mahomes is operating in an era without Brady or Manning. Notably, Brady has the upper hand over Mahomes, having defeated him twice in significant stages like the AFCC and SB. The narrative might be different if Mahomes were playing in the Brady era. He could really be another Rodgers a great talent, who can't get to the biggest dance.
Mahomes got 2 rings. He could very well get his 3rd ring. but he's not even half way there yet. 7 is a tough mountain to climb. Yes, he would need to win 7 for me to put him at the top. Because the ultimate goal is to win. Brady is the greatest winner. If brady didn't have rings, he ain't no GOAT.
you could say brady's 1st ring really didn't count much. but i could also say his 7th ring counts twice as much with a new team, 43 year old, went through brees, rodgers, and mahomes etc.
