LOL @ you comparing the likes of Jadakiss and Maino to Malcolm X when talking about the streets. Jada and Maino talk about crime against other blacks in the first person view and they don't talk about progression to help other black folk. Malcolm is light years ahead of any rapper and was a selfless man.

SMH @ you talking about how rap was socially conscious. I remember back in the day when the likes of P.E. got called out for being "too preachy" for speaking out against racism and black on black crime-on Menace II Society. :stopitslime: @ the dudes acting like that many of the old rappers didn't contribute to the minstrel show of the super thug era where black folk were marketed as animals and record labels degraded us subconsciously to the lowest level of life.

How come some of the old heads never mention about wanting another Public Enemy or a Black Moon, but yearn for another Jigga or Ma$e? Hell, a lot of the oldheads shyt on Nas on a regular basis and talk against socially conscious tracks.

this is why I laugh when people on here talk down about chief keef, flocka and Gucci mane b/c most of these rap fans don't care about t he content just as long as the rapper makes it sound good and has clever wordplay. Most of these mid 90's rappers that people were talking about the same ole shyt as these cats do right now. only difference is that they took the craft more serious and actually cared about wordplay, flow and metaphors. If chief keef actually had bars and was actually rapping people on here would be on his d!ck all day long...

Naw Cheif keef is trash. Lets now confused him picking good beats for him to use for his "raps".

Anyways am I the only NYer that's happy the city is a safer than it was growing up in the 80s and 90s?! Like I think the problem is that rap in general there is a total degradation of skills and originality. Yes the street element will always be apart of hip hop and provide that edge but alot of Thuggin to be Thuggin rappers suck. Maino, I'm sorry, most people don't wanna hear 100 bars about how you murder nikkas and supply the whole east coast with that pure white. Or how many years you been in jail surrounded by nothing but men.

nikkas wanna hate on Drake or Kendrick but they can rap. They make enjoyable music. It's positive. It's dope. I'm not saying all gangsta rappers suck. You have a few that are dope and use skill to convey their points or be creative with their concepts but most of these nikkas come from jail and rap because UPS ain't hiring cuz they have a record.

As far as NY sound, the radio is a pay service. You have alot of folks still rhyming with a NY state of mind that gets no play nationally or anything. I used to think NY was dead until I had my own radio show and went out to these open mics and showcases and see that NY just went underground and found a good home. These mainstream guys latch onto what's hot to stay in the spot light and people just assume all of NY is like that. fukk that. We still with boom bap. Great raps. Subway and headphone music. It never died.

I agree. A lot of the heads here don't like good music, just the image and the beat. I agree with the originality and the skills factor can increase a little.

I mean isn't that the point? I mean for every positive rapper there has to be negative. That's fine. That's accepted. Expected actually. But they can atleast BE GOOD at rapping.

LOL!

I can't I can't I can't!!!

Look at all them goddamn yuppies in the background of this video. What a fukking joke.

"What is that big scary black man doing in front of that camera...oh...one of those rap videos...lets see if we can get Nathan, Ethan and Meegan in the shot!"

Bed-Stuy's not as gentrified as Williamsburg or Bushwick, but it's gentrified nonetheless.

Bedstuy is still 65-70% black and alot AA own those brownstones. But the price is going up.

You're missing the point breh, he's speaking on people who talk down on dudes like Keef and Flocka and such for their content, yet dikkride other rappers who spit about the same shyt just cuz they're lyrically superior. Do you not see that bullshyt double standard?:mindblown: If you're gonna hate a rapper cuz he's ass lyrically, just say it, but cats don't need to be on some sanctimonious shyt talking bout how the content is garbage....it's the same fukking thing.

You have poor comprehension skills.

No ones comparing the two, just saying that the anger that comes out of black folks raised in poor environments is more likely to lead to a Malcolm X esque character than a middle class black boy growing up in the subarbs, who thinks life is all rosy.

And you got things confused, the generation of Public Enemy and Mase are different generations.Saying that theres still; rappers like Kane and Ra, who while not as socially conscious as the likes of P.E still touched on black issues in their tracks, still had their songs filled with 5% references, same thing with Wu Tang, same thing with rappers like Styles P, Nas etc, these rappers are hardly around in the 00's.

Chief Keef couldn't make a track like the D'evils, couldn't make a track like Poison.

The 90's rappers were raised in a times with heavy 5% presence and it showed in their rhymes.

Maino is super trash tho and a part of why NY rap sucks. He acting bitter but your city doesn't have to support you if u make garbage music. What hurts NY rap the most is the failure of the young next generation.... The fabs and Jadakiss etc. Them dudes never took the spot from Nas and Jay and the people that came up under them were even more generic. Nikkaz got caught up in spitting ill bars not making ill songs and lost their audience.

this is exactly where I was going at. lot of rap fans are hypocrites

Youre not getting what I'm saying is a lot of posters want to act self righteous and look down on Gucci mane, and chief keef, and flocka because they make "bad" music that's "bad" for the youth yet will praise (insert 90's NYC rapper).

Yet fail to realize most these 90's rappers are talking about the same bullshyt as chief keef and flocka but do people talk down on their music b/c of their content? fukk no! Well, not on the coli atleast.

But if a dude like keef was a dope rapper EVERY SINGLE POSTER on here would be fawning over him especially considering his background and such.

LOL @ you thinking that all middle class black folk think like white folk. Talk about stereotyping; you do so much on ya own to put down hard working middle class black folk that white folk don't have to do shyt. The likes of Rakim and Public Enemy grew up in middle class burbs in 2 parent homes, and they are relevant in every inner city issue that there is.
