End thread. :russ:

Like Snoop couldn't even be bothered to touch that building with his hands. :wow:

I'm glad there's more suburban influence in rap. I can relate to the newer rapper waaaaaaay more given their backgrounds and age. So what if rap is getting softer? Is that a huge problem? Do people want to stay grimy and threatening at all times? Nah.

the streets are way more harsh, now.
there is no solidarity and completely small cell op's everywhere.
which leads to everyman for themselves type mentality.
making the streets harder now, than they ever were.

at least back in the day,...
you knew what was what, and everyone had a look and belonged to their actual group or social demographic.

now, you have no idea who or what anybody is or is on.
which makes it way the fukk harder than before.
plus, there is no actual cultural refuge or escape, at all anymore.

so, it makes it even more stressful.
the streets are not candyland,..I don't know where or what streets you been on, but the shyt is not for play and it damn sho ain't safe.

You raise a fair point about the lack of organization. The change in street politics is kinda a different conversation. Although I can see how someone from Oakland or Chicago might think its worse now, you and Blackthoughts can only provide anecdotal evidence which doesnt override the statistical evidence that matches up with my own anecdotal evidence. I grew up in the hood in Atlanta in the 80's, lived in a nice neighborhood in DC in the 90's and spent a good chunk of the 00's in North Philly. I havent had to step over a zombie in a long time and I havent seen anybody get their sneakers and Starter jacket ran since like '96. The last time one of my friends or associates got killed was '05 and they were partially at fault.

Crime is always gonna exist. Can't write it off like it won't, it's a part of human nature, but it's really not as rough and rugged out here as it used to be. Definitely not on the east coast. I strolled through Crown Heights earlier in the year and it wasn't shyt. I'm in Philly all the time and as bad as it still is, its soft compared to when I lived there. In large swaths of bad neighborhoods you have to go out of your way to find anything on a scale of how it used to be. As long as you arent afraid of mean mugging children and teenagers, yes it really is Candyland. DC hasnt been the murder capitol since Rayful Edmond got locked up. NY has been one of the safest cities on east coast since 9/11. Even Chicago where it seems like theres a murder every day isnt seeing the body count from the 70's, 80's, 90' or 00's. At some point we gotta start living in the now and acknowledge reality and the opportunities that exist instead of dwelling on the good ol days which werent so good.

Proliferation and oversaturation of Mixtapes KILLED NY HIpHop. Also the Regional Ego Karma that came back ten fold didn't help.

The fact that the radio is playing a bunch of people who can't really rap like that is Hugely disrespectful. Same as people having this hot today, not tomorrow mentallity. How you expect to structure a culture when kids don't really acknowledge any history?

It's all about what's relevant for the moment.

Yep. Cats in other regions still remember when NY looked down on other people as inferior. Now they can't even compete. Its karma at its most powerful.

NY is the major center of the world's entertainment industry. You're talking from a Hip Hop perspective....Not an overall NY perspective. Separate the two when referring to NY.

Yeah, but even if you are right, that doesn't give Ny an excuse to blame it on others when they technically started it. I see this situation as an opportunity for NY MCs to prove themselves, not to complain for the sake of it. With the technology that people have now, there are no real strongholds of entertainment nowadays. Everyone from everywhere contribute to this era.

you living in candyland, breh.
first,..
off this is a penal colony with publically traded corp's in that industry.
on top of using rap as its marketing tool in the sales spike must be gangsta rap at all cost era.

if you think it is easier, than before.
back then,...if you wanted to do or be sumfin other than in the streets you could.
now, ereybody is in the streets from all social, racial whatever difference you can name.
with no rhyme, reason, pedigree, or former social stratum...
which means it is more dangerous.
back, in the day...
you knew who what when where why,.......
now, there really is no explanation for most of the shyt that goes on except poverty, and consistent social dysfunction that always leads to violence.
anybody of any look can get you now...
back, in the day....
you knew who was on what and where you should have been,...
now, shyt can go down whenever, cause everybody is poor.
after having a higher quality of living which means more people in shock.
which leads to desperation,....
there is no preparation, for a better day.
on hard work and proper execution of actual skill gets you somewhere.

I think you live in a bubble you constructed and have a improper idea of security.
meaning you, lack'n breh-breh.
shyt is real as fukk out here...
you just do not know it because you are self equating from the lack of real current duality in your life.

there is no way you would cite some statistical information for what the tone of the streets is.
a stat can never be indicative of how the streets, or the world are.

Say what you want but the squares like Drake ain't better for the development of blacks than the NY rappers of the 90's. People like to act like the likes of Drake don't talk about crimes in their bars etc. The only difference is that they lack the hunger and lack the sense of injustice that many of these 90 Ny rappers had growing up, say what you want but i a soc called angry black man is better for us than a docile naive one, Malcolm x was from the streets just like Maino, just like Jadakiss, in a sense this is what rap has lost with the pushing to the forefront of a bunch of hollywood made suburban acts, its lost its edge and its lost its revolutionary spirit, no one is saying that everything should be like the 90's, but the likes of Wu Tang Clan and Nas, street rappers who offered a political/social insight may never be at the forefront of mainstream rap again.

All we have is a bunch of jiving dancing c00ns.

Yes, the greatest rappers of all times were from the streets.

The folks who are living in a bubble are the ones who can't see the transition that's taking place. When they do manage to see through the bubble they think:

'why is everything so soft?'
''why dont these rappers rap more about sex drugs money and guns'
'these rappers are too happy and friendly and aren't reinforcing the blaxploitation minstrel show imagery that flooded rap at the end of the crack era.'

Obviously, these folks arent very good at math, otherwise they would be able to understand something as simple as statistics and update their outdated worldviews to incorporate what's blatantly obvious to average person.

Crime is down. It's down drastically. The sky is not falling, Chicken Little. It'll be okay.

so u in them ? smh

A voice of reason.

The nerve of these cats who have spent every second for the last 10 years on internet forums acting authentic trying to speak down from their rocking chairs on Mount Olympus about the skreets. Back in my day :deadhorse::old: we didnt post up on the net cuz we were too busy posted up outside on the stoop. Couldnt sit up in the house and play videogames all day cuz there was life outside. Kids couldnt walk around with $300 phones and $200 sneakers cuz they would get taken. These cats are perpetually stuck in 1987 like an old Japanese soldier on an island in the pacific ocean unaware that WWII is over. The Japanese lost.
