Rap is about OVERCOMING the struggle with your own way of expression, not embracing and and staying in it. Even back in the day when "The Message" was made, they were talking about overcoming that shyt and being better people. You don't have to be a goon to be a good MC. You the one that is brainwashed back in the 90s into thinking that you have to be in the streets doing dirt to be a relevant to the culture.

"The Message" was the greatest rap song ever created. That song was about enduring the struggle not looking over it as if it doesn't exist. That song doesn't even belong in the discussion if it's being used as an example to justify the content of todays popular rap music. The Message was hard as fukk and it didn't promote violence at all. The Message is the epitome of my vision for Hip Hop content.

I have no time for imaginary internet gangsterisms. shyt is Candyland out here unless you live in a few areas and even those spots are nothing compared to how they used to be. The actual harsh reality of the streets has been conflicting with what rappers rap about for a long time.

the streets are way more harsh, now.
there is no solidarity and completely small cell op's everywhere.
which leads to everyman for themselves type mentality.
making the streets harder now, than they ever were.

at least back in the day,...
you knew what was what, and everyone had a look and belonged to their actual group or social demographic.

now, you have no idea who or what anybody is or is on.
which makes it way the fukk harder than before.
plus, there is no actual cultural refuge or escape, at all anymore.

so, it makes it even more stressful.
the streets are not candyland,..I don't know where or what streets you been on, but the shyt is not for play and it damn sho ain't safe.

Proliferation and oversaturation of Mixtapes KILLED NY HIpHop. Also the Regional Ego Karma that came back ten fold didn't help.

The fact that the radio is playing a bunch of people who can't really rap like that is Hugely disrespectful. Same as people having this hot today, not tomorrow mentallity. How you expect to structure a culture when kids don't really acknowledge any history?
