"Viacom and Clear Channel controls everything on the airwaves"
they dont control what the average person now listen to.

why do we need the radio to play anything for us to hear it. with so many ways artists can release songs now a days, who really saying "i gotta check radio for this new shiit" people on here love to talk about people connected more now then ever to what goes on line, what young person gonna spend all day waiting on radio to play something they wanna hear when they can find it themselves online
Who has ever gone platinum without radio?

i have never cared about artists sells and or who going platinum. i strictly care if music good or not

but tell me, why do we need the radio to play anything for us to hear it. with so many ways artists can release songs now a days, who really saying "i gotta check radio for this new shiit" people on here love to talk about people connected more now then ever to what goes on line, what young person gonna spend all day waiting on radio to play something they wanna hear when they can find it themselves online

My Pops Forever RIP
Things done changed in certain places. I commend Giuliani and Bloomberg for cleaning up NYC. Out here in the Bay Area I've seen no change, things have changed in L.A though. nikkas are getting softer in NY tho which was Maino's main part, and soft doesn't mean you have to be a goon. Soft to me means there's nothing you're willing to stand for.

That's not what Maino's referring to. Maino's not taking some moral stance on shyt. he just wants the vibe to be what it used to be, where there were elements of the streets you feared every day and it created an atmosphere that was at least interesting.

Look at what Joell Ortiz said on "Hip Hop"
And yes I'm a fan first if you from the south, finger snap till your hands hurt
If you from the west W's in the air, if you from the east coast act like you from here
The good old two step, the classic head nod
The thirsty iced grill, who wants to get robbed?
That was the energy in the club, on the real
That was the energy that I love, aww man

The problem is that you can't have that energy without the danger that comes with it, and whether it was the mayor or people getting fed up, that vibe's not here for the most part and that's counterproductive to the hip-hop we're not accustomed to, but identify with. Gentrification is a motherfukker, but prosperity is cool. It's just kryptonite to a goon.

and you can blame the radio all you want, but it's not like there's 100,000 goons in NY listening to the same set of goons. Many of those motherfukkers aren't listening to those rappers either. They'd rather bump MMG. It's not like there's a bunch of hustlers in these streets listening to Prodigy /Alchemist or supporting A-Mafia (who IMO is the best rapper doing that NYC gutter shyt).

Because the masses flock to music that's popular. If Adele was strictly a youtube/ITunes artist she doesn't go Diamond.

again, u speak of sales....which i say i give no shiit about.

you said
If a nikka tried to make a positive song about systematic violence or anything that was pro-black or socially conscious radio wouldn't play it. It's no coincidence that rap is getting softer, Viacom and Clear Channel controls everything on the airwaves.

i ask why do we need the radio to play anything for us to hear it. with so many ways artists can release songs now a days, who really saying "i gotta check radio for this new shiit" people on here love to talk about people connected more now then ever to what goes on line, what young person gonna spend all day waiting on radio to play something they wanna hear when they can find it themselves online

or u know nobody gives a shiit about Maino music and comes off as old bitter dude

Good points. I can see how a nikka would be mad tho, NYC was thriving when he was locked up. That hardcore shyt was in heavy rotation, he gets out of jail and gets a deal then 50 destroys the NYC rap scene and reduces it to rubble only to have this kind of shyt blow up.

Most people aren't willing to look under rocks to find good music. They'll either play their old shyt like I do or succumb to the current shyt on the radio and learn to like it. This is a message board so of course we're more privied to underground shyt but most don't frequent message boards and aren't willing to go thru the due diligence of finding quality music. You shouldn't have to, I use to be able to turn on the fukking radio and hear classic music being played. I used to be able to listen to "I seen a man cry" or "So Many Tears" or "Smile" on the radio.

Then 1 day the white man decides he doesn't want us to hear that kind of music on his airwaves anymore so he buys BET and monopolizes terrestrial radio via Clear Channel and Radio One and floods the airwaves with corny nikkas and corny music.

I heard a song by Macklemore on KMEL last week which was about accepting gay people. If a nikka tried to make a positive song about systematic violence or anything that was pro-black or socially conscious radio wouldn't play it. It's no coincidence that rap is getting softer, Viacom and Clear Channel controls everything on the airwaves.
What are you talking about? Oakland is being gentrified like a muthafukka right now. Have you not noticed all the hipsters and white folks moving into lower east oakland/west oakland?

Some whites are starting to move into certain sections of West Oakland, they live by Lake Merritt in east Oakland but that's where it stops. None are moving into Deep East Oakland period. And I don't see it happening in my lifetime. They'll stay in the Hills but no way no how will East Oakland ever become gentrified. Just won't happen.

NY's been soft for a while now. DC's soft too.

Good. Rappers need to find something else to rap about. Crack era's been over for 20 years. There's gotta be a middle ground between rapping about imaginary crack sales and wearing a dress/purse/ladies scarf. You shouldn't have to be threatening to be masculine.

have you not noticed the change in demographic? Oakland's losing its black population and gaining more whites and mexicans. Check the census
What census backs that up? I been in the streets and have seen nothing of the sort. Like I said before, West Oakland is seeing a spike in Whites in certain sections but there's no where else that has seen a raise in Cacs. Anyone from Oakland can attest to this.
